"Sip it once," Marshall continued, and his sister joined in on the next bit, laughter in her voice. "Sip it twice." It had been years and years since they'd played with this rhyme but it flowed back easily enough. They'd been hapy children, once. They got more animated as it went on, twisting and turning in the cramped space as the rhyme called for it.

"Lemonade, crunchy ice, make it once, make it twice, turn around, touch the ground, kick your boyfriend out of town, and freeze!"

They both froze, each with a limb stretched out towards the ceiling, then relaxed in a fit of laughter ––

Which was then crudely cut off by a single forceful bang against the door. Something fell off the dresser. Kate froze again but it wasn't for a fun reason like she had just seconds ago. Marshall huffed out a laugh but it sounded more like he was surprised than that he thought it was funny.

Then it was quiet again.
