Jelly Bean B2, Early Monday Morning

There was no one holding Kate as she woke up on Monday morning. She'd expected it, of course, but it was still not a nice feeling to wake up and find herself alone.

Especially when it was fairly permanent kind of alone.

She reached behind her, fingers scraping against the mattress until they found the necklace and closed around it. She pushed herself up enough to get it around her neck more easily, then slumped back down to the same position she'd gone to sleep in. Still taking up only half of her narrow bed for no real reason at all.

As if he was going to come back if she left him some room. It was idiotic and sad and made no sense, but it was early in the morning and she thought it was allowed.

"Several reasons," he said, quieting his own voice. "You did though. You got me."

"Tell me," she said, the words almost muffled against his chest. "Not all the reasons. But... Maybe just one?"

"All right," he said, falling quiet while he thought of which reason to tell her. There were many. "You got me because you made my heart feel warm."

She considered that for a moment. "Didn't think I had it in me to do that."

Not that she sounded like she minded having been wrong.

"You do," he said, quietly but meaningfully. "Trust me."

"Mm."

She moved a bit, to get her lips closer to the general area of where his heart was.

"Is your heart warm now?"

[therewaslife]

"It's very warm right now," he said and sighed. "Very warm."

[vanillajello]

"Good," she decided, then pressed her lips there for a moment, not caring that there was a shirt between her and his skin. "Just because I'm here?"

"Yes," he said simply, nodding. "You make me feel warm just by being around. So, yes."

[vanillajello]

"You really like me." No, it wasn't a question. She settled against him again, pondering the chance of a nap. Or continuing her interrupted sleep, or whatever. "I like you too."

It wasn't a question but he reiterated the sentiment anyway. "I really like you. And you like me too. Good."

[vanillajello]

"And I want to make your heart warm," she mumbled. "And I miss my stupidly observant necklace. And I'm tired."

[therewaslife]

"You do make my heart warm, I'm sorry you miss your necklace, and I think you should go back to sleep," he said quietly. "I'll be here when you wake up and your necklace will be too even if it's not in the way you want."

She got a little more comfortable as he spoke. Getting ready to sleep again. "Mmh. You'll be here?"

He'd already said he would, but it didn't hurt to hear it said again.

"Yes," he and kissed the top of her head. "I will be here. I promise."

"Good. 'Cause I've had enough of waking up alone for one morning."

Once had been enough, even if this one wouldn't be quite as bad. Not a permanent kind of alone. She sighed.

"See you when I wake up."

"You're not alone," he said very quietly, keeping her close to him while she wandered back toward sleeping. He was slightly tired himself but he wasn't going to sleep right off.

He wanted to watch her and make sure she didn't have nightmares or anything else. He said he'd do everything else. He was going to do that.
