Jelly Bean Living Room, Friday Morning
The radio last night had confirmed what Kate's futile attempts at reaching her friends over the phone had already made her think. They were gone. Vanished. Not here.
That hadn't stopped her from checking out Gobstopper cabin a little earlier this morning, though. Just in the vain hope that things might have returned to normal. That Bod might have come back.
But no. Of course not. The island wasn't done screwing with them yet. As evident from the giant roaches she'd had to evade on her way.
She had seen Kyle's note, though. That gave her some hope.
Kate hadn't made up her mind about where to go, yet – it was either the manor or the school, really – but that wasn't stopping her from stuffing her backpack with useful things right about now.
She sure as hell wasn't staying here.
[ooc: Open, to those few who live here (no seriously, I think it's just Kate, Ariel and K-Mart now), or anyone who'd like to knock on the door.]

Because she knew herself and she knew how easily distracted she could be, she wanted to be supplied to the teeth.
Still, when she burst into the living room with probably way too much force and saw someone there, she jumped about a mile in surprise at first, and then could only slump slightly in incredible relief to see that it was Kate.

Or at least she thought she was. Really, there was a constant undercurrent of potential for freaking out.
... Which was to say that yeah, Kate jumped too. After realizing it was just Ariel, she made a face and rubbed at her forehead. "Jesus Christ, Ariel, don't do that."

"Yeah, I know," she said. "Kind of on edge right now." Understatement.

She lifted her bag, to show that she was collecting supplies before heading out, and then nodded toward Kate's own bag. Same thinking?

She shrugged. It sounded better than staying in a tiny cabin, anyway. "There's the school too, though."
no subject
"Which is closer?" she wondered in writing, because that seemed a fairly good detail from her view.

Kate wasn't good at figuring out distances. Especially with the added pressure of island is insane.

"Maybe," she wrote, "we should split up. One to one place, the other to the other, and if the one place looks bad, we can hightail it to the other one..."
She had written that after a moment of thought, one that had her arriving at the school, only to find it empty except for some fascinating and strange creature that she, obviously, had to bravely fight though she was not at all well equipped or experienced for such encounters. Of course, in this vision, Ariel totally won all the same, and the adventure of it all took the best of her to suggest this plan of action, despite the fact that everyone knew you didn't split up.

"No," she said. "There are creatures and shit out there. Splitting up? So not a good plan."
Let's ignore how willing Kate had been to go out all on her own about five minutes prior to this conversation.

"Manor, then?" she asked. "We at least know of one other person there..."
no subject
"Yeah, seems kinda like our best bet," she agreed. "Do you have anything that works as a weapon?"
She had the sharpest and biggest knife she'd been able to find in the cabin's little kitchen area. It... wasn't all that big. Or all that sharp. But she was pretty sure it'd at least kill some of those bugs she'd seen earlier.
"I mean, we're gonna be running like hell most of the way if I have anything to say about it, but..."
no subject
Much better.
no subject
"Okay," she said, nodding slowly. "That's... That's probably really good. And d'you have any food or water or stuff like that? I pretty much already grabbed everything I can carry."
no subject
Ariel...didn't have anything like that, but, with a nod, she bounced over to the cupboards and the refrigerator and, quickly, after a moment to decide what might be the most helpful, shoveled as much of it as could fit into her bag as she could. Then she hoisted her table leg up again and gave a slight thumbs up.
She was feeling kind of grateful for Kate being there, for catching her before she left. She would have otherwise just bolted out of there unprepared, but now she felt ready.

She zipped up her backpack. "So. I guess we're ready to go."

This was probably going to be a long trek.
[Why yes, I'm a filthy modder. Forgive me?]
