Room 324, Saturday Morning

Kate was a Prom Queen. That... had just come out of nowhere, and made her very giddy and happy for the rest of the evening. The cherry on top of an already fantastic senior prom night.

And Kate was still happy when she woke up on Saturday morning, oblivious to any obvious changes that had happened overnight. Sure, there were probably other interesting things in the room as well, but the first thing she saw upon opening her eyes was the tiara on the nightstand, and it wasn't more than half a minute until she'd grabbed it and perched it on top of her head before standing up on the bed and declaring, loudly, to no one in particular, "Imma queen!"

Really, she probably would've done that even if she had been about ten years older like she was supposed to be.

"Ice cream isn't very good for breakfast, though," Bod pointed out, shaking his head. "That's more of a dessert food, Kate."

Such booooring grownup talk. Kate rolled her eyes. "Who cares? I'm a queen, I can have dessert for breakfast."

Of course, if he didn't want to be dealing with a tiny queen with a stomach ache later on...

"And who's going to get you the ice cream?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "You?"

[vanillajello]

"No, dummy," Kate scoffed. "You are. Cuz I'm a queen, and you're not."

[therewaslife]

"I am?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "And how are you going to make me get you ice cream?"

[vanillajello]

"... By ordering you to," Kate decided after a moment to ponder that. "'Cause I have a crooown."

And she emphasized that word by readjusting the tiara on her head, and smiling wide.

"But, I'm English," Bod pointed out, laughing. "I don't think you're at the head of my monarchy, Kate."

[vanillajello]

"But this is my room!" Kate replied, making a slightly uncoordinated, one-armed gesture at the room. "This is my monararchy."

That was totally how you said that word.

"...I don't know if I'm convinced," Bod said, shaking his head. "When I went to sleep, I was under a different monarchy and now you're saying you're the boss?"

"Yes!" Kate replied, glad to see he was catching up. Or at least it seemed so to her. "And now I'm the queen and you do as I say!"

"You can't even ask nicely?" Bod wondered, raising an eyebrow at that bossiness.

Really, had he been expecting something other than bossiness? This was still Kate, after all.

And she was sticking her bottom lip out at him now. "Pleeeeeeeease?" He should cherish that: even Eric the viking giant wasn't going to manage to wring the word out of her, later in the day.

"All right," he sighed, finally pushing himself out of bed and reaching for her hand. "Let's take a walk down to the common room to see if there's any down there and we'll come back, all right?"

"Okay!" Kate slid off the bed and happily took his hand. "I hope there's ice cream. Ooh, or pudding cups!"

"You can't have them both," Bod decided, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and walking them both towards the door. "One or the other, all right?"

"Noooo," Kate whined as she followed him, tugging on his hand for emphasis. "Why so many rules? Pudding cups are way small! I'll just have li'l bit of ice cream!"

"That isn't a lot of rules!" Bod objected, shaking his head. "It's one rule that I'm putting into place so you don't feel sick later. It's for your own good."

[vanillajello]

"All the grownups always say that," Kate complained, making a face. "T's the only one who doesn't. I like her."

When she wasn't a bit scared of her, that was.

"You've met T already?" Bod asked, getting them down into the common room and heading for the refrigerator. "She's a friend of yours?"

[vanillajello]

"I guess," she replied idly, practically skipping on the way to the fridge. "She comes around sometimes and lets me have all the candy and ice cream and chocolate I want."

"Well, she shouldn't. You're lucky that you haven't gotten sick," Bod said, pulling out a carton of ice cream and showing it to her. Chocolate flavored, of course. "Now, you can have ice cream or you can pudding. Choose one."

"When I was tiiiny, T made me get a big hurt on my hand, so she has to give me candy now." That was how Kate saw it anyway. "I dun wanna decide, it's haaard."

"A big hurt?" Bod asked, forgetting about the ice cream momentarily. "How big?"

Kate waved a hand at him, half dismissively and half to show him the hand that had been hurt a few years previously.

"Biiig," she said. "I dun remember it, but Mommy says it was big. T left the iron on and thas why I'm not allowed to go near the iron anymore, cuz it burned and was hurty forever."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Bod said and eventually decided that they were having ice cream since she didn't want to choose. "Does it hurt anymore?"
