SkyKans Flight from Tulsa to Kansas City, Thursday Fandom Time
Far, far from any creepy dolls of any kind, Kate Gregson was somewhere in the air space between Tulsa and Kansas City, prepping the snack trolley for a trip down the aisle. She was glad to be there, too, since her Granma Bev was visiting Char and... Well, she didn't think it was going to be pretty because Craine women weren't the greatest with their mothers.
So, snacks were her friend right now, and she was just about to start pulling the trolley into motion when she caught movement behind her, and turned around. It was that guy Evan, the frequent commuter, and her SkyKans smile turned a little more genuine. "Oh, hi!"
"Hey," he said, reaching into his pocket. "I, uh, have the thing that you wanted."
There had been a lot of things happening, lately. Kate thought she could be excused for her confused, "What?"
"Ta-dah!" Evan said, triumphantly holding up a... Pez dispenser. "It's Tully the Tulsa oil man!"
... Yeah, it still took Kate a second or two to catch up. But once she did, she laughed, reaching for it. "Oh, wow!"
Evan smiled at her. "They were sold out, but the manager found one."
Kate thanked him, and he gave her a little nod, and then moved to go into the bathroom, his chivalrous act of candy dispenser acquiring completed, except the bathroom was occupied. And Kate decided, fuck it, she wanted to talk to more normal people. Especially ones that helped her in her idiotic little quests. "You know," she said, "it would have sucked if they ran out, because I almost have the whole set."
"Uh-oh." He gave her half an amused smile. "What happens then?"
"It's stupid." Almost embarrassing, really. But it was also her thing. "But I go to all these places, and I never see anything outside of the airport." She waved Tully in the air a little bit. "So I figure if I get all the Burger Knight candy dispensers, I have something to show for it."
Evan raised his eyebrows. "You find yourself in situations where you need to prove to people you've been to Tulsa, Oklahoma?"
She laughed. "I guess it's more to prove to myself that I can leave Kansas whenever I want."
"Oh, so you're from Kansas."
"Mm. Overland Park, born and raised. I mean, there was a two-year stint in Maryland, but yeah." She was so Kansan it hurt, really. "If you need any suggestions for when we land, I can recommend doing nothing, seeing nobody, eating nowhere." He gave her an understanding laugh and she added, "Real suckfest."
"Come on," he replied. "I'm sure you find ways to have fun."
Kate smiled, but wryly. "Mostly by flying out to Maryland." Or portaling out to other places. She would've added something else too, but that was when the bathroom door opened, and a middle-aged guy pushed past Evan, back to where his seat was.
Evan gestured at the open door. "Bathroom's open, so..."
"Oh, yeah," Kate nodded. "I need to get this trolley moving, anyway. Uh, talk to you later."
There was no non-akward way of ending a conversation with someone who needed to use the bathroom.
