Overland Park, KS, Monday FT, Too Early to Live

After texting with Mitchell, Kate considered going back to sleep.

For about two seconds. And then she was gently shaking Bod by his shoulder. "Bod, wake up! Rum drinks at the Honolulu Heights next week!"

Because that was going to make sense to him for sure.

Bod...actually thought he might have been dreaming. He could feel himself getting shaken and he could hear an excitable voice but it was so early so he didn't think it could be Kate.

"Next week, right right," he mumbled, still half asleep and shifting towards her in his half sleepy state.

Sadly, that really wasn't good enough for Kate. She kept jostling him.

"No, wake up," she insisted. "Wales! Housewarming! Celebratory drinks!"

This time, Bod did crack his eyes, peering blearily up at her like she was insane but it was an affectionate look of 'are you insane?'

"What?" he asked, sounding hoarse. "Am I dreaming?"

Kate thought it was okay to be a little insane when you were barely awake and your friends had come back from purgatory.

"No!" she told him. "Are you awake now?"

"Slightly," he said, rubbing his eyes and yawning. "What's the matter? Why are you awake so early?"

"Mitchell just texted me." And she was practically clapping her hands together, sitting on her heels on the bed.

Naked, as you do. "He got Annie out! They're both home, and it's just... fucking amazing."

"Got her out?" Bod asked, still trying to come to full alertness. "As in...out of purgatory? Wow."

"Yes." And Kate was absolutely beaming about it. "So, there's gonna be housewarming next week, and we're invited."

"That's wonderful," Bod said, smiling at her albeit still somewhat sleepily. "Are you sure you want me to come though? I don't really know anyone."

"Well you don't have to if you don't wanna," she replied. "I mean I think you have Spring Break soon and everything, but... They would love you, okay?"

"I'll think about it," Bod said, smiling at her. "But, it's good to see you look so pleased about things."

Kate shrugged a shoulder and smiled. "I don't get nearly enough good news these days," she said. "So this is kind of huge. Major huge good news."

"And good news is definitely something to celebrate," Bod said, smiling at her. "You deserve it and I'm glad you were given good news even if it's very, very early morning good news."

"Well, I liked getting them, I don't care about the time," she decided. "... Whether I can go back to sleep is an entirely different matter, though."

Because she pretty much wanted to be on a portal to Wales or something, right now.

"Well, I'm going to go back to sleep," Bod said but he wasn't really intending to. He was going to be playful about it though and roll onto his side away from her so he could stretch out and sigh deeply.

Even if he wasn't going to sleep, the bed was quite comfortable and it was so nice to sleep next to her again.

"Wait, what?" Kate snorted, watching him roll away from her. "You're just gonna leave me all wired on my own?"

She doubted he was actually intending to go through with that. Even if teir bed happened to be comfortable.

"I believe I am," he said, stretching again and then settling down (or pretending to settle down). "I'm sure you'll find something that will help your energetic nature."

He was smiling though even if she couldn't see it.

"Come onnn," Kate whined, reaching over to poke at his shoulder. "I'll turn the stereo on and wake everyone up."

"And what exactly are you hoping I'll do?" Bod asked, staying where he was and suppressing a laugh. "What if I'm tired?"

"I don't know," she said, flopping down onto her side again so she could move closer and curl up against his back, tracing a spiral against his skin. "You should entertain me until I feel sleepy."

"What sort of entertainment do you mean?" Bod asked, stretching against her a bit and sighing. "Did you have something in mind?"

"Board games," she quipped, drawing a star. "Maybe poker."

[therewaslife]

"You'd like to play poker?" Bod asked, sighing at her touch once again. "That's an interesting choice for you."

[vanillajello]

"Or maybe chess," Kate drawled. She pushed her hand flat against his back. "Checkers. Something like that."

"Checkers, hmm?" Bod sighed again and shifted. "If you have the pieces, I'd gladly play checkers with you. That's not a problem at all."
