Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

"Hiiii!"

Oh, Kate could deal with pouncetacklehugs, definitely. Even on the receiving end, she could manage a bit of pounce and tackle of her own.

"You made it!"

"Well, for a while there I was worried I'd end up stuck in Madripoor, but my portal came through after all," Bobby rolled his eyes. "It's good to see you."

"It's good to see you too," Kate replied, grinning. She had friends over, happiness was allowed. "How've you been? What've you been doing? Sorry I suck at keeping in touch."

"Oh, you know, final exams," which would've mostly been a formality even if they hadn't had that whole 'pretend to be normal' craziness going on, "and a bit of a scare with the school board threatening to shut us down." Okay, it had mostly been Colbert rather than the entire board, but. Like Bobby knew that.

"Oh, yeah, I heard," Kate nodded ~~modding Bod SCANDALOUSLY~~. "With the uniforms and everything? Must've sucked, dude."

"Well, the uniforms were- horrendous, but it wasn't exactly a new experience for me," Bobby made a face. "People come to Xavier's looking for reasons to shut it down all the time."

"Why?" Kate wondered. "I mean, I kinda sorta get why someone would shut Fandom High down because like ninety percent of all life threatening situations in my life have been a direct result of that place, but..."

Bobby shrugged. "With Xavier's? Because it presents this front of being a totally normal if somewhat exclusive boarding school. And if word got out that it was a boarding school for, well. You-know-who's," someone was still slightly paranoid about using the m-word around people he didn't know too well, yes. "People would lose their shit. From what I understand, Fandom was kind of the same deal. Everyone thought the people funding it would freak out if they found out it's not so normal after all."

"Oh, right," Kate replied, nodding in understanding. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense, I mean, in a totally oppressive and sucky way but still. But it didn't turn out that way."

"So now it's just a matter of waiting to see what graduation will throw at us, I guess," Bobby said, grinning wryly.

"Well, last year we had Vikings," Kate remarked. "So... It'll probably be something insane this time too. Yeah."

"You gonna come check it out?" Bobby asked.

"Wellll, my boyfriend is graduating," she pointed out. "So, hell yes. I feel obligated."

Plus she just wanted to. She knew other people in the graduating class, too.

"Not to mention your favourite roommate."

"Yeah, him too," Kate agreed, reaching out to pat him on the shoulder. "Can't believe you're finally graduating, dude. Trippy."

"What, didn't think I'd make it that far?" Bobby asked, pouting exaggeratedly at her ~~after the LONGEST PARENTAL PHONE CONVERSATION EVAR~~.

She snickered. "No, stupid, I just meant like, you were there the entire time I was, y'know? I think in my head you're always gonna be... supposed to be there."

Of course, technically he almost hadn't managed to graduate. "That's totally part of the reason I ended up coming back to school," he informed her. "To reassert the Fandom Balance."
