Party!!!, Overland Park, KS, Sunday FT

Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

[Minor OCD coming up! And like I said in the invite, come one and all!]

So, Hannibal hadn't really responded to say he was coming or not but after some thought and some convincing, he was there. He didn't know if he should be there but he was.

It was a good thing Max was such a tall man, otherwise Marshall might have gotten some kind of a complex over how tall so many of Kate's friends were.

(Of course, that did nothing to the fact that all Kate's friends also seemed to be handsome guys. He was in mourning, not blind.)

He blinked a little after opening the door.

"Uh, hi."

"Uh, yeah," Marshall said, nodding as he got himself out of his daze. "I'm Marshall. Kate's brother."

This guy probably knew that, but anyway.

"Hannibal King," he introduced, offering a hand. "I'm, uh, I knew Kate when we were both in school. We're friends."

"Oh, no, I know who you are," Marshall replied, as he took his hand. He didn't mean it in any kind of a bad way. "Kate's talked about you. You... live in New York, right?"

"As of late, yeah," Hannibal said, nodding. "But, I thought I'd get away from the city this weekend to see Kate. It's been awhile and I've been kind of...moping around mostly."

Marshall wasn't going to comment on how much of that had been going on here, too.

He just opened the door further and stepped out of the way. "Well, I'm sure she'll be really happy to see you."

Marshall nodded, before retreating back into the kitchen.

His sister had all the best looking friends. It seemed unfair.
