Party!!!, Overland Park, KS, Sunday FT

Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

It'd been a while since she'd seen, or even spoken to him, so maybe this was normal now, but she'd wind her way over to tease all the same. Normal greetings were for people she didn't know quite so well.

"I thought it was about time I saw some of the outside world again," Hannibal said, giving her a slight smile. "Hey there."

"Hey." The greeting was returned with a smile and Angela spread her arms to at least get a hug. She was allowed one of those these days, right? It had all become a little difficult over the last year or so, but that she thought she could still count on.

"I'm glad. It's good to see you, can we not leave it quite so long next time?" It felt like a really, really long time.

"Yeah, you know, I'm doing my best," Hannibal said, stepping forward so he could embrace her. "It's been...messy but I think I'm getting there. Soon, I'm sure I'll remember how to use a phone like a regular person."

"If it helps, I'm back in the country as of... well, now." Several thousand miles closer made keeping in contact with other people that much easier. "No more weird phone numbers and time differences." There were still different universes to content with, but still.

"No more France?" Hannibal asked, sounding a little surprised. "Thought that was your kinda town."

"Oh, don't get me wrong, I love it there." Paris was all kinds of her sort of city. "But it was only ever a temporary deal, for the school year. It's not like I was running off forever." Tempting as that might have been.

"It does feel like it was over really fast."

"What're you gonna do now?" Hannibal asked curiously. "School over and done with?"

"For the summer, and my plans for that are still in progress." Progress that mostly involved waiting. Lots of waiting. "But maybe back in Fandom for a couple of months. If they want me."

"I'm ninety percent sure I can talk my tutor round on workshop running being extra credit worthy." There was an easy ride for next year right there. "And they pay you for it." All good things.

"Back in Fandom?" Hannibal asked, surprised. "To teach?"

"Maybe," Angela repeated. Just to make sure that part had stuck. "Try not to sound too shocked at the level of responsibility," she joked. "They may yet decide I'm unfit to mold the minds of next generation." Who were all of three years younger than her.

"In which case I'm running away with a circus for the summer."

"I can't see how they wouldn't want you back," Hannibal said with a laugh. "What would you teach?"

"Art," obviously, "Well Art Therapy. Mostly, because who doesn't want a free excuse to throw clay around?"

Possibly everyone but her. But whatever, if she got herself a class, she would make them love the idea too. There was probably slightly more to her teaching strategy than that.

"Art therapy?" Hannibal repeated before nodding. "Sounds...doesn't sound too bad, actually. Does that mean people who are pissed off can draw really angry pictures and get A's?"

"If they do it with conviction, sure," Angela agreed smugly. Her kind of marking criteria. "A stick person frowny face will not count. My class, my rules."

The power was clearly going to her head already.

"Am I going to be able to persuade you to stop in and visit?" Since she was going to be that bit closer and all. "Oh, oh my god if you come on the right day, they could draw you. You're so good at that." Kidding, she was kidding. She would not seriously try to make him pose in a class. That would be one way to make sure he stayed well clear.

"Uh, I dunno," Hannibal said, shrugging. "I'm not real big on visits to the island these days. Guess I could try and drop in at some point. Maybe."

Angela resisted the temptation to remind him he wasn't real big on visits anywhere, and just nodded a little resigned.

"If it helps, I was completely joking about the posing thing." In case he hadn't go that. "At least think about it?"

"I can't make any promises but I made it to Kansas so there's a better chance of me making it there too," Hannibal said. "I'm working on it, you know? I am."
