Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

"Or we were terribly, terribly bored," Eric replied. "Hello, Emma."

"Northman," she greeted cheerfully. "I think I decided if I tried studying for finals any more, my brains might leak out my ears. And I rather like myself sane and still telepathic."

"Though I find myself hard-pressed to ever think of Fandom as boring, unless I'm mis-remembering things. Don't tell me the gremlins went on vacation?"

"I wish," Eric replied sourly. "They attacked me a month back."

Emma made a face in sympathy. "I don't understand how they aren't a health hazard," she complained. "If somewhere out there is a natural predator for them, I will pay to ship some in to the island, and I don't even live there anymore."

"I would pay someone to ship them to people I don't like," Eric said thoughtfully. "Maybe I could get my assistant to catch some."

Joan would love that. Really.

"You do not pay your assistant enough for that, unless he, she, or it is invulnerable," Emma answered. "Even then, that might be hazard pay."

"I could pay that," Eric decided. "I could send a gremlin to Bill!"

Because Eric was a petty bastard.

"...I would help do that for free."

Emma? Dislike Bill? Perish the thought.

Eric grinned a little fangily. "We'd have to get it on film, too, of course."
