Ugh. Long workdays due to delayed flights were horrible. Made all the more horrible by a seemingly endless stream of increasingly annoyed and annoying customers. Seriously, it was ridiculous how far the general mood could plummet. Kate's cheeks were practically aching from the all the smiling she'd forced herself to do.

So when she made it home, she shed her uniform, pulled on a flannel shirt like it was a decent thing to wear, and flopped down on the couch in the living room.

"Have we met?" Kate asked with a snort. "Please, I barely had time to eat shitty airport food. I mean, I might not wanna actually get off this couch for it but yes, I'm up to eating."

"Well, I wasn't going to make you get up or anything," he told her, standing up again. "I just didn't know if you'd eaten while at work. Though, if you had, I'd just keep a portion for leftovers for you."

"Because you're the best," she replied, half teasing and half sincere. "And I'm totally gonna cook for you soon too. Probably tomorrow. I should be home way earlier."

"Oh?" He chuckled and made his way back to the kitchen. "And what might you cook for me?"

"Dunno yet." Of course not. She gave Seamus some scritches behind the ear. "Maybe some pasta thing. What are you making me?"

Seamus rolled onto his back and flailed his paws up at her.

"Baked chicken and mixed vegetables," he told her, waiting for the protest at one of those particular parts of the meal.

Hey now, Kate wasn't that immature when it came to food!

Okay, she did say, "Eww, vegetables." But that was mostly a joke.

"Vegetables are good for you and I'm seasoning these so they'll be good," he chided lightly. "I promise."

"Okay, then it's fine." She didn't really hate vegetables, anyway. You didn't get to hold on to an attitude like that when your brother was Marshall Gregson. "So, how was your day?"

"It wasn't too bad at all," Bod told her, shaking his head. "I went to work, I came home, I walked Seamus. It was really rather boring, in fact."

"What, no one crawled up from their grave?" Kate teased. "Too bad. Your day could've used some excitement."

Not really.

"That definitely would have been exciting," he said with a little laugh. "Even when I lived in the graveyard, I never saw anything like that. The ghosts prepared to exit more gracefully."

"Yeah well they weren't horror story ghosts, anyway." Actually, she'd rarely met horror story anything. Although she supposed some of the things Fandom had thrown at her over the years counted. She rubbed Seamus' belly as she talked. "Also, if that ever happens? I expect you to call me right away."

"You want to know if things start rising from the dead?" asked Bod, amused. "Really?"

"Uh, yeah," she said, like that was obvious. "That shit doesn't happen in Kansas, I need to know immediately if it does."

"And what would you do if it did happen?" Bod felt compelled to ask.

"Get you and my parents and get the hell out of here."

She was... actually serious about that.

Look, she'd spent a lot of time drawing a line between what happened where she was from, and the places he and Mitchell and Jack and Eric and whoever where from. Her world was supposed to be normal.

If it ever turned out not to be, she was making sure they all got the fuck out of there and somewhere safe.

"What would you tell your parents?" Bod wondered, letting the food cook and coming out into the living room. "They don't even know about me."

Kate shrugged. "I would tell them everything."

And then deal with the consequences.

"So, if that never happens, do you think you'll ever tell them about me?" He was curious and his expression was unreadable for the moment.

She shrugged again, but it was a slower gesture, a little more unsure. Because she was thinking about it. "Dunno. Maybe? But if it's not for an acute emergency, I'd have to break it to them slowly. Because there's no way I would ever just tell them about you and not let them in on a lot of other unusual stuff too."

"How do you think they'd take it?" he asked quietly.

Kate looked down at Seamus in her lap.

"I honestly don't know."

Although she thought they'd probably suspected something was off about Fandom over her years there.

Bod smiled at her. "Well, I would like it if one day you did tell them about me, at least. But I also understand why you might not and it's fine either way."

Kate looked up and smiled too, even if it was a bit lopsided. "I'll consider it. Mom seems pretty stable these days."

The alters just came out every once in awhile. It seemed to be under control for the most part.

And yes, that had been a major part in why she'd never even considered telling when her mom had been worse.
