Kansas City, MO, Tuesday Evening

Ugh. Long workdays due to delayed flights were horrible. Made all the more horrible by a seemingly endless stream of increasingly annoyed and annoying customers. Seriously, it was ridiculous how far the general mood could plummet. Kate's cheeks were practically aching from the all the smiling she'd forced herself to do.

So when she made it home, she shed her uniform, pulled on a flannel shirt like it was a decent thing to wear, and flopped down on the couch in the living room.

"Nooot moving."

Kate... finished her drink and then gave Seamus some more belly rubs because he was clearly asking for them.

This was totally a useful thing to do. She was showing affection for their pet!

Showing affection for their pet was a fine thing!

"Dinner's just about ready," he called out, turning off the oven and reaching for the plates. "Haven't fallen asleep, have you?"

"I'm awake," Kate announced, even if she sounded lazy. "I'm just cuddling Mr. von Slade in quiet reverence."

"Just checking," Bod said, dishing her plate up with some chicken and vegetables before doing one for his himself. And then he was on his way out with dinner. "I've got your dinner, Cuddle Bunny."

"Ooooh." Kate moved to shift Seamus onto the floor again. He could just deal with her need to eat without a dog in her lap. And she was reaching for her plate as soon as her hands were free. "Thank you, my darling."

"Anything for you," Bod said, settling his plate on the couch so he could give Seamus a bone to gnaw on. He picked his plate and sat down beside her. "Let me know if you need anything."

"Oh, dearest, you will be the first to know." She smirked at him, then shook her head. "But I think I'm good for now. 'Sides, you should just get to sit down for a nice long while, too."

"Oh, don't worry," he said and settled down, legs stretched out in front of him. "I don't plan on moving save to return our plates to the kitchen. I'm done for the night."

Kate leaned over to give him a kiss on the cheek. Now that she hadn't actually had any food yet so it wasn't gross. "Good. I mean, everything you need is right here on this couch."

"Indeed it is," he said, smiling gently at the kiss. "Well, on the floor too since that's where Seamus is but everything I need? It's in this room."

"Yeah, me too," she told him happily as she got started on her dinner. Only limited time for physical affection when she was hungry. "Everything is on this couch or in its immediate vicinity."

"Good," he told her, nodding and getting started on his dinner as well. "And I'll be here the rest of the night. As will Seamus."

"Who can't actually go anywhere on his own," Kate concluded. As much as he sometimes tried to. "Got it. We'll have a nice quiet family evening at home."

They were so married. And happily so.
