Weeping Angel A4, Friday After Classes

Kate was fighting a losing battle.

Namely, one of trying to stuff all her surprise luggage under her bed. There were just too many. They would never fit. But she just had to try. Not like she wanted them just laying around, when they had labels like Too much responsibility, Pushed around by skeevy guys and Heart bruised by Southern idiot.

And of course, that one fucking luggage set with the label Crazy mother issues.

Eventually though, she just gave up, letting a few of the bags that wouldn't fit just stay in sight. She was just going to flop down on the bed and be thankful that at least she'd been able to push that one black leather bag (which for some reason looked like an old-fashioned doctor's bag, and which had the words That one awful Saturday labelled on it) as far back under the bed as it would go.

Fucking Fandom.

"Mm, maybe," Kate agreed. "Or our natural combined weirdness is canceling it all out, or... something."

"Whatever the reason, it's nice that we can," Bod decided, brushing some of her hair back with his fingers. "We'll just have to be careful and not talk too much or there's a danger of saying something that makes you panic or makes me be awkward."

"I don't know," Kate said with a content sigh, shifting and kind of slumping to rest her head on his chest as she often did. "I mean, you called me your special girl and that went over pretty well."

Yeah, that was about how long she could shut up about that.

"I had a feeling you might figure that one out," he said and winced. "I wasn't trying to claim you, I assure you. It was just one of those things that...slipped out."

"It's okay," she said. "I didn't really take it like I'm your girl. I just thought I'm special to you specifically. And I knew that already."

The power of rationalization was strong with this one.

"You are special to me," he confirmed, nodding a bit. "It could have been taken like that though so I should...be more careful about what I say, in any instance."

"Mm. Maybe so."

She wasn't so sure anymore. So she did the smart thing and... Fell silent for a moment before changing the subject without much of a segue. "I watched a movie about mutant otters yesterday."

"Mutant otters?" Bod repeated, glancing down at her. "How did you come to watch a movie about those?"

"It was that or, like, Asia Today. Or one of the more boring soap operas," Kate explained. "I got to choose, and I'd rather watch giant otters stomp all over Tokyo."

[therewaslife]

"...yes, they would certainly need to be giant and mutated to destroy a city," Bod mused, snickering. "My knowledge of movies is severely lacking, I'm noticing. I only saw a few here and there after I'd left home. Mutant otters are...new."

"It's not a common thing," Kate assured him with a laugh. "The destruction of Tokyo is, though. Or New York. Or any major city, actually."

[therewaslife]

"You do strange things in your downtime, Kate," Bod teased lightly. "And you call me weird."

"You're coming from outside my culture," Kate decided. "You don't get to call my pop culture weird. You just don't understand it."

[therewaslife]

"You call me weird!" Bod reminded her. "And say I've done weird...stuff in my time."

No, he wasn't repeating the curse word.

"So, why can't I do the same?"

Kate peered up at him so he could see her grin.

"My alcove, my rules, remember?"

Bod laughed and shook his head at her. "So, do I have any rights in this alcove or do I have to step outside to be able to be on level footing?"

"You have the right to lay there and look good?" Kate offered, snickering. "I have no idea why you'd want anything more."

[therewaslife]

"All right. I will just lay here and look nice," Bod said, nodding and settling his face into something stoic and calm. No, he didn't know if that made him look good but he was playing along. "How's that?"

"Looks like you're trying too hard," Kate said afer glancing at him. "It doesn't work if you're trying to look nice."

[therewaslife]

"I'm not trying that hard at all," Bod said, laughing. "I didn't know there were standards of how I can look nice."

Kate pointed a finger at his face when he laughed. "That. That's when you look especially good."

[therewaslife]

"When I laugh?" Bod asked, doing it again because he couldn't help it. "So, it's more acting natural and not acting posed?"

[vanillajello]

"Exactly," Kate said, nodding. "You look good when you don't know you do."

[therewaslife]

"I've never thought about it either way," he said, laughing and blushing a touch. All right, more than a touch. "I never think I look all right so I've never tried to make myself look any different, if that makes sense."

"I'm not sure it does," she said. "But I get it. Anyway, I think you look good. Obviously."
