Room 324, Monday Afternoon

After the arrest and everything, yesterday had continued to be just as moodswingy a day as many of the others before it. On one hand, her video had gained more than 250,000 hits in a single day, and Lynda had invited her to the Crossroads art shindig this Friday. On the other, she and her brother had had to listen to their parents fighting for like two hours in the evening. That always made her feel like an orphan. It sucked.

As did having to leave Marshall alone with the mess she could escape, especially when it was going to be his sixteenth birthday tomorrow. But Kate was still insanely glad when she finally managed to convince her parents to unground her so she could come back to Fandom.

She flew back, her parents paid for the tickets. She was too late for her classes, and probably would've skipped them anyway, so once she made it into her room, she just dropped her bags on the floor and fell over onto her bed, burying her face in her pillows.

Home sweet home, or something.

"You looked nice. I mean, you looked different," Bod said, still wrapping his mind around everything. "You were very unique looking."

"Thank you." Kate was choosing to just take that as a compliment. "That's the point, she's a unique character."

That may not have been entirely true.

"Yes, I can definitely see that," he agreed with a nod. "She looked very unique and..."

Confusing.

"...talented."

"Well, she's supposed to save her gazillion sisters," Kate replied idly, closing the laptop. "Better have some talents."

The talent of magnificent cleavage was as good as any, really.

"I'm sure she'd be successful," Bod said, thumb rubbing his lip thoughtfully. "You looked like you were having fun."

"I did," she said, smiling while she looked down at her computer. "I mean, it was kinda like when I did the plays, or that big dance recital last year, only better."

[therewaslife]

"Thank you for showing me even if I don't really understand," he said apologetically. "I'm not really one for that type of thing, I don't think. I'm slow."

"You're not slow," she argued gently, glancing at him. "Just not really your thing. Which doesn't surprise me, considering it's totally my thing."

"It's made you happy and that's the important part," he decided, nodding. "I'm not slow enough to know that."

"I know. And it's been pretty cool." That was an understatement. "Ooh, and Lynda invited me to this art thing they have where she lives this Friday. And then she's coming here for the weekend."

[therewaslife]

"She's coming here for a visit?" Bod asked. "You sound like you're going to be seeing a lot of her so I guess it is good that you get along so well."

[vanillajello]

"Uh huh, she's gonna be my guest for Parents' Weekend," Kate nodded. "I was gonna invite Moosh too, but he said he's got stuff, so..."

She shrugged.

[therewaslife]

"Oh, Parent's Weekend, right," he said and frowned briefly. "I'm glad you've a guest you like coming since it's an entire weekend on this island. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself."

[vanillajello]

"Better than last year, that's for sure. That was a fucking catastrophe." And had her expression darkening some. Catastrophes weren't faraway things right now, sadly. "Not doing that again."

[therewaslife]

"I've no guests coming." That he knew of. Oh, if only he knew. Right now, he didn't. "I suppose I'll spend my weekend inside, staying out of the crowds."

[vanillajello]

"You're gonna have to meet Lynda," she pointed out. "So you'll probably have to come out for that, at least."

[therewaslife]

"If you'd like, I suppose I can do that," he said even if he knew he'd end up melancholy and moody that day. "I wouldn't want to cause any issues."

[vanillajello]

"I think you should meet her, because she's amazing," Kate said. "But I'm not not gonna force you into anything."

If he'd rather brood.

[therewaslife]

"I meant more because she's from your home and I'm strange," Bod clarified, shrugging. "I couldn't mention my name around your parents or talk about certain things. I didn't know if this was the same sort of situation."

[vanillajello]

"Lynda's kind of a different deal," Kate mused as she pushed herself up and onto her feet again, to take her laptop to her desk.

"I mean, I'm not gonna tell her everything about what goes on around here, but... it's gonna be less stressful with her, I think. Like, I think her mind's more open to begin with."

[therewaslife]

"All right," he said, nodding and watching her as she moved. "I'd be pleased to meet her then. You've spoken so much about her, I feel I shouldn't miss the opportunity."

[vanillajello]

"You shouldn't," she agreed as she set the laptop down, then reached to pick up one of her bags and out it on her desk chair. "I'm sure you'll like her."

Okay, no she wasn't, but she still kind of wanted them to meet.

"I like most people I meet," Bod said, still watching her, "for one reason or another. Everything else back in Kansas is all right?"

Kate didn't say anything for a moment, unzipping the bag to look inside, reaching in to touch the shiny boots.

Then she shrugged a shoulder.

"Well, if we take all right as meaning back to normal, then..."

"Something happened?" he guessed, raising an eyebrow when she avoided the question somewhat.
