vanillajello | Room 324, Late Friday Morning

It was Kate's birthday.

Not that that was much evident from anything, except maybe the slightly stilted happy birthday phonecall she'd gotten from her dad earlier, and the far more animated one from Lynda a little later. But it was still her birthday. Seventeen. Hmmh.

She was grabbing a portal to KC in the evening to join Lynda in the Crossroads district's First Friday art thing. And afterwards she was going to take another portal back, and tomorrow morning Lynda was going to fly over to be her weekend guest.

But for now? She was lazing about in a skimpy top and shorts (it was her birthday, she thought she was allowed) with some candy and a random bad movie on her laptop. And wearing her Princess Valhalla boots for no real reason, other than having just checked the insane number of hits on her video.

So far it was an okay birthday.

Bod would have smiled if his mouth hadn't been completely and utterly busy but since it was, he just kept kissing her and let the hand he had shoved up her shirt and the fingers he had around her breast knead softly, massaging the soft skin to give her something more to feel.

Kate squirmed underneath him, just a bit. It was a nice feeling. He should know that. And since she couldn't tell him in words, he could tell him through the kiss.

Her nails traced a zigzagging trail up his back.

Bod pulled away from her lips but kept his hand where it was. Was he teasing? Did he need to breathe? He wasn't going to tell. What he was going to do was smile at her.

"Are you dizzy yet?"

"No," Kate replied quietly, sounding a little out of breath. Her hands stilled for the moment. "Try harder."

"I don't think you're telling me the whole truth," Bod said, shaking his head lightly. "I think you are dizzy."

"I'm not," she insisted, shaking her head as well. "Not dizzy at all. Could walk a straight line and everything."

"Would you like to prove that to me?" Bod wondered, smirking at her.

"Would you like me to?"

Well, she was pretty confident she could do it, if need be.

"I think I would," Bod said just because he thought it might be amusing. The hand around her breasts squeezed a few more times, harder than before and he smirked before he moved off of her.

"Okay, but it's not gonna be too interesting," Kate replied, moving to get up. "I can totally walk."

... Uh. She'd forgotten about the boots. She looked a little unsteady just getting to her feet.

"If you say so," Bod said, laying back on her bed and looking amused. He'd caught that unsteadiness. "Let's see it."

Kate took a deep breath and squared her shoulders before trying to walk across the room to the door in a straight line.

There was a little wavering here and there, but for the most part she looked pretty steady. She turned around when she got to the door. "See?"

Bod gave her a short round of applause and laughed. "Congratulations. You were a little unsteady in spots but you didn't fall."

Kate smirked smugly. "See, I told you."

And no, she didn't let her smugness get the best of her when she wandered back towards the bed again. "Not dizzy. You're failing."

"I'm not failing," he said, stretching and shaking his head. "You're smiling. I don't think that means I've failed at all."

"Failing at making me dizzy," she clarified, stopping to stand by the bed. "Not in other ways."

Bod shrugged one shoulder. "I think I can live with myself. If you're happy, that's all that really matters to me."

"Awww. Really?"

Shush, it was her birthday, she could be mushy if she wanted to.

"Of course," he said, nodding. "Yes, really."

"I'm not sure I believe you," she told him, getting one of her knees on the bed again. "Tell me again."

It was just a clever ruse to get him to repeat it.

"If you're happy," he said, smiling over at her, "then that's all that really matters to me."

"Mmm." She climbed onto the bed and moved to stretch out on her side beside him. "I don't know, I think I still feel a few lingering doubts..."

"If you're happy, that's all that matters to me," he said again, snickering. "I promise."

"I think I might be convinced now," she decided once she'd settled some. "I'm happy."

"Good," he said, smiling warmly now. "Good, I'm glad. You should be happy."
