Room 324, Monday After Classes

There was something up with today.

Kate had been feeling antsy pretty much straight since waking up this morning, and hadn't been able to shake the feeling since. And that was weird, when Sunday had been such a good day after such a long stretch of bad days. She only tended to feel this restless when things were entirely messed up.

After her classes, she'd tried to do some of her independent course work, but had given up pretty soon after realizing her thoughts just kept straying to far more interesting things.

She was considering going downstairs to the gym and dancing, even if she hadn't been doing that for months now, because that usually helped with... whatever this was.

But before doing that, she'd happened to catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror on the wall, and so she was now staring intently into it, trying to determine what exactly it was about her appearance that seemed to make her look even better than usual.

"Good," Kate nodded again, while going over to her dresser to retrieve a bag from one of the drawers. "Sounds like the perfect time to finally give you your damn presents."

"Oh, right." He'd completely forgotten about those because of, well, everything. He couldn't help laughing at that. "I forgot."

"I'm so surprised," Kate deadpanned as she came back to the bed and sat down on the edge of it, then looked into the bag. "Hmmm, well. I guess serious presents first? Or maybe if you don't like them I'll claim they were the teasing part or... Whatever."

Okay, so maybe she was a little nervous about this. Randomly. Maybe.

She reached into the bag, then handed him a hard package that contained two items. It was fairly easy to tell they were books just by feel. "So... Happy fake birthday, boyfriend."

"Thank you, girlfriend," Bod said, reaching for the packages and carefully opening the presents. Yes, he was one of those people. Besides, he was reveling in getting presents.

"You got me books," he said, pleased and then read the titles. "Kate. These books look amazing. These look..."

He reached for words and then beamed at her. "I love them. Thank you. I've never seen books like these before. It makes me want to start them right now."

Well. That... really was the best way ever to get Kate beaming right back at him, wasn't it? Not that she'd been nervous about how those would go over with him. ... Much. She wasn't used to buying people presents she'd actually put thought into.

"I'm glad to hear that," she said, still smiling. Possibly like a dork. A bit. "But you better not, 'cause there's still more. Like this."

She pulled out another wrapped gift. This one was considerably smaller and softer, as he'd find out once she handed it over.

This was also the teasing part, yes.

Bod carefully settled the new books beside him and opened the other gift. As soon as he pulled them out, his cheeks were red and he was laughing. He held up them so they both could see.

"These are very bright," he laughed, shaking his head. "And very true, I think. You're incorrigible. And I'll wear them tomorrow."

"Hey, my first idea was furry handcuffs," Kate couldn't help sharing, while snickering. "I think you got off easy. And I think those'll suit you."

Or not. That was hardly the point.

"You promise to wear them?"

"I promise," he said, nodding. "If not tomorrow, sometime this week. I promise. I really do like them. My underwear will be smiling the entire day."

"And if I see them, I will be smiling too," she smirked, then peered into the bag. "So. One more present to go."

"If you see them, we'll either be settling in for some sleep or...the underwear will be telling the truth," he laughed, draping those new boxers over his lap. "Thank you for the ones you've gotten me so far."

"You're welcome," she said with a quick smile, as she reached for the last one. "So, this is not really any kind of a big deal, but I made it myself."

She hesitated a little, then gave it to him. It was CD shaped, mostly because (as unwrapping it would reveal) it was one, with a neat printed track list on the cover.

Kate folded up the empty bag and waited for him to open it.

Bod hadn't expected all of this at all so knowing the last gift was something she'd taken time to make for him made him extra grateful. He took the CD and looked it over, flipping it and reading the track listing and the songs and not even noticing that his smile was growing each time he read a new song.

"Kate, you made me..." He was smiling at when he glanced over. "You gave me songs. You gave me songs that you picked. You gave me music."

And Kate was smiling dopily again. "Yeah, I did," she said, intelligently. "It's mostly just a bunch of songs I like, plus a couple that make me think of you."

"I'll have to see if I can decipher which is what," he said, reading the song titles again and trying to see if he could guess what they might sound like.

"I love it," he said sincerely, holding it carefully and reverently. It wasn't like people made things for him all that often. "I love all the gifts you got me."

"Well, I love you," she replied, shrugging a shoulder and smiling as she stuck the bag in one of the drawers of her bedside table. "See why I kept going on and on about your presents?"

"I love you too," he said, reaching to clasp her wrist so he could tug her closer to him. He wanted to kiss her and thank her with more than just words.

That could be arranged. She promptly crawled closer to him, because the idea of being close to him was a particularly sweet one today. "Do you?" she murmured. "I love you."

"I do. I love you," he said and leaned closer to kiss her sweetly and gently. "I love you and thank you for thinking me like this. You're the first who ever has."

"I said I wanted all your firsts, didn't I?" she said quietly, after another kiss. "That includes thoughtful gift giving."

"You've got all of my firsts so far," he assured her, smiling. "You're going to take them all."

"Mmm." By now she'd pretty much crawled all over him. Which was just perfect for kissing. "I would like that."

"You can have them," he said, laying back comfortably and smiling up at her again. "I want you to have them. I want you to have everything you want."

"Everything I want, hmm?" she wondered, with a lazy smirk and a raised eyebrow, looking down at him. "Funny, I think that's you."

"You have me. You've already had me," he laughed, snickering. "On the desk."

Kate couldn't help snickering too. "Technically, I think you had me on the desk," she mused. "But I might wanna have you in my bed."
