The Causeway, Sunday Evening

Despite the progress she'd been making in a variety of things, walking around alone after sunset was still not something Kate was particularly fond of. She'd been pretty keen on spending time with Zach, though, so that meant it had already been dark when she'd made back east. And that... had quickly led to going through a mental list of options of what to do.

She'd picked calling Nathan before catching a cab back to the island. She had her reasons. And she also had a little brown bag of takeaway in hand when she stepped onto the causeway. Like she'd promised.

Kate gave an exaggerated, sad sigh. "Well, then I'll just have to call you that inside my head, and you'll never know."

"As long as you don't call me that out loud, I don't care. I hope you and the voices in your head are very happy together," Nathan said, shrugging his shoulders.

And she called herself normal.

Well, to be fair she'd only ever really claimed she could pass for normal.

"We tend to be," she snarked. "They're good for company."

Nathan shook his head, pleased to see that the dorms were nearly right in front of them. He was freezing. He was way too skinny to be traipsing out in the cold for so long.

"Fucking finally," he muttered, already thinking of his nice warm bed. "Next time, you're gonna owe me chicken nuggets and some body heat if you want another escort."

"I think I'll just make sure I don't come back after dark," Kate mused, shaking her head, eyes on the dorms. Mm, warm bed. "Thanks anyway."

"Yeah, sure," Nathan said, shrugging and falling quiet for a few moments. The cold may have just frozen his brain, making quips and witty remarks a little more difficult. "You can find your way to your room, I hope?"

"I'm sure I can call my roommate if I get lost," Kate replied, her own snark somewhat subdued now. "I'll be fine."

"See you later, then," Nathan said, already heading for the stairs so he could make the four floor climb and get to his room where he could finally get his skinny ass warm.

Kate just nodded. She still had to run by the gym, anyway, more or less convinced she'd left a shirt there, and... it just felt like a convenient time to go check.
