Overland Park, KS, An Afternoon in May [Friday Fandom Time]

Big surprise, Kate had run away from Fandom to Overland Park again. It was starting to become a thing with her, but she didn't care, sometimes it was good to be elsewherer. She'd been here since Wednesday night – or, they had, since Bod had come along with her, but right now he was on his class-and-diner trip back to Fandom. Or getting takeout, if you looked at it from the official OP standpoint that was oblivious to portals.

And Kate? Kate was glueing lace and fake gems and sequins to headbands, because Charmaine had decided that was going to be her new business. Making tiaras and selling them on Etsy. Generally, Kate might have mocked the idea (even if she was pretty sure it came from when she'd shown off her own prom queen tiara) but right now it was just kind of nice to be working with her hands.

And when she watched Charmaine and her big belly out of the corner of her eye, she couldn't help thinking a little about Alice. Not that she got very far with those thoughts, because Char was in a chatty mood. "-- and I don't want you turning this place into a den of sin," she was saying. "With your James Bund of a gentleman caller."

Kate snorted. "What?"

"Well, you know," Charmaine said, with what Kate assumed to be her best trying-to-be-an-adult voice. "There's going to be a baby in the house in a few months. I don't want you corrupting her."

"The baby you got pregnant with while dating someone who wasn't the father?" Kate checked with an eyebrow raise. "Tell me you're joking."

Charmaine deflated. "Okay so I don't really give a rat's ass what you two get up to as long as it's in your room, I was just trying to be, y'know, assertive and and authoritative and motherly. How'd I do?"

Kate just snorted again and shook her head.

"And no shirt? Dirty." He'd only mentioned her and her shorts; he got what was coming to him. "I was trying to go for a classy image, but I fell short 'cause I don't actually own classy things."

"No shirt would be...very nice," he squeaked, nodding. "I would be...very, very enticed."

"And here I was thinking of luring you back in with class," Kate snickered. "But no, it seems just being explicit would work fastest."

"I enjoy how you look," Bod said, sounding shy. "I can't help it. You're beautiful."

"So don't desert me for the porch," she murmured, happily. "Don't ban yourself from my beauty."

"I won't," he promised, smiling. "I won't ban myself to the porch thus banning myself from your beauty. I promise."

"Good," she nodded. "Because that'd be ridiculous and a total shame. You need to be here, enjoying me and everything I have to offer."

"And I'm right here," he murmured, sighing again and leaning against her. "I'm right here, enjoying you and everything you offer."

"My back, mostly," she chuckled, just lazily teasing. "My sides. My neck and my cheek and my ear. My voice."

"You didn't want to let me go," Bod reminded her, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Has that changed?"

Kate tipped her head back against his shoulder in return. "Not really. Unless you can think of other things to do that are as comfortable."

Bod laughed and just kept cuddling her, front to back. "We can stay like this for as long as you'd like, Kate. I'm here for you. However you'd like me."

"Your feet will start hurting," Kate claimed, even as she smiled far too happily at his words.

"I'll be fine," Bod said, shaking his head. "Stop being so literal and let me cuddle you some more."

"I'm not being literal, I'm playing the part of the concerned girlfriend!" Kate replied, laughing. "We could lay down on our bed and you could keep cuddling me. I like it when you cuddle me, I really do."

"We could do that," he said and chuckled, loosening his grip a touch. "It'll save my feet and yours a lot of eventual hurt from standing for so long."

"Exactly," she nodded as she started to pull him along towards the bed. "We have a grocery run and whatever to do today, we shouldn't be tiring our feet out yet."

"And snacks with your family later," he reminded her, walking along with her. "Though, that probably doesn't require a lot of feet strength unless another tornado rolls through."

"Don't even joke about that," Kate scolded him, though lightly, rolling her eyes. "Not doing another torando thing ever again if I can help it."

"Well, you're lacking a princess costume so maybe the tornado will stay away since it knows that," Bod said lightly. "If a tornado occurs, it'll be all my fault."

"Yes, yes it will." She put one knee on the bed and wondered how far this would work before he'd just have to let go of her. "In any case, I'm a queen now."

"Have you found the experience of being a queen better than the experience of being a princess?" Bod asked, putting his knee on the bed after she had.

"You're asking dangerous questions," she murmured, focusing on getting her other knee on the bed as well. "But yes, yes I have. By far."

It wasn't hard.

"Dangerous questions?" he repeated, frowning. "Why's that?"

"The whole PVH thing, it --" As Kate searched for the words, she broke off from his embrace so she could flop down onto the bed, stretching out onto her side with her back towards him. She glanced over her shoulder at him. "It's just kind of a really unpleasant thing to talk about, y'know? Maybe not all of it, but still."
