One of the good things about living in Fandom was getting to use Portalocity. So, when an obnoxious dude happened to stumble upon incriminating videos of a dark part of your life you would have rather buried and never thought about again, and you ended up punching him in his stupid face, and then found yourself anxious to get off the island because it was making you feel pukey and bad... You could hit up Portalocity for a package deal on portals to a cottage in Hawaii.

Kate had portalled out ahead to set some stuff up in advance before Bod got there. Those things included mundane stuff like getting groceries, but also special things like a hammock fit for two between two trees in the yard. It was important to have one. Right now, it was.

And there were one or two other things as well. Since the portal was not too far from the cottage, Kate had just texted Bod the address and a picture of the building, and was waiting for him on the kitchen, wearing the dress she'd not gone to a party in not too much earlier. She was resting her elbows on the railing, and beside her there were an empty jar, and a quickly made sign that said 'KISSING BOOTH'. Because she was a dork.

A dork who really, really felt like she needed to be with her boyfriend right now.

Bod nodded and laughed because he couldn't really argue with that, not at all. She was influential and encouraging and could clearly make him do things that others couldn't.

"You're special."

And that was the reason why she could get him to do things.

Kate smiled widely. "I am," she agreed, because she liked the idea that she was, anyway. "And so are you."

"Thank you," Bod said, blushing and hiding that blush against her hair. "I try to be."

"You're succeeding," she murmured, as she finally put her empty bottle of juice away. "It's why you have my ring now."

"It's why you have mine too," he replied, resting his lips against her hair and cuddling her closer. "We can be special together."

"And we're plenty special," she sighed, idly stroking her hand against his arm. "Obnoxiously special. I like this hammock."

"I do too," he said quietly, closing his eyes and just really, really feeling content and warm with her right now. He could feel her against him and the warm metal around his finger. "Let's stay here for awhile?"

"I'm cool with that." Mostly because she really, really did not want to move. Any and all exploring and activities beyond lazing in the hammock could be saved for way later. "Let's just stay here."

Excellent plan.

It truly was an excellent plan. Bod didn't say anything in response because he was too busy cuddling up to her and sighing.
