Overland Park, KS, Friday Afternoon (August)
The last weekend was still weighing on Kate, just a little bit. She figured that was unavoidable after you got pretend killed, but she'd been trying to keep herself occupied and distracted because it was probably for the best if she didn't think about it too hard.
This weekend was going to be better, though. Or at least that was the plan she was clinging to. She hadn't told anyone but Charmaine that she had a friend coming over, so she figured her whole family knew by now, because Char was not the greatest at not blabbing. Not that it was any major secret, Kate just would've preferred it if her family hadn't been likely to flock to be curious about her elusive Fandom friends.
But that was for later. As it got to be the afternoon, she wandered out of the house and down the street to where the portal tended to dump its transportees, and kept an eye on the houses nearby in case any neighbors decided to wander outside.
Oak Avenue had its fair share of weird without adding portal sightings to the mix.
[ooc: NFB, and for that guy. Not the usual one. The tall one with the scar, yeah, that one. But can be open for texts/calls before he shows up I s'pose!]

"What are you guys doing?" came Charmaine's voice from the direction of the kitchen. "Are you gonna come here? 'Cause I dont feel like getting up."
"In a sec, Charmaine," Kate called back. "I'm trying to turn Luke into an Urban Duchess first!"

If nothing else, it would distract Char from the scar and the sickliness.

She looked up and raised an eyebrow at Luke. "...Huh. You're taller than I expected."

"She also didn't mention anything about the Bond villain scar," her aunt added, proving that Kate's talent for being blunt and straightforward did actually run in the family.

That sounded better than dragon, right? Right.

Meanwhile, Charmaine offered "I'm sorry," she said. "So, you're gonna stick around for a few days, right? Are you gonna make yourself useful?"
Kate raised an eyebrow at her. "Wow, way to be hospitable, Charmaine."

"Hey, I can totally cook!" Kate protested. "... But Moosh is still coming over to cook for us tonight."

"We're not moving the fridge," Kate cut in. "You're not gonna fit in the nook any better even if we did, and it'd be a pain in the ass for me, so no."
Charmaine rolled her eyes. "Fine. But you're gonna have to keep getting things for me."
"Fine," Kate replied, rolling her eyes as well, before turning to Luke. "So, you wanna have a tour of the house or something? Or at least figure out where you're gonna sleep?"

And this was where she moved towards the stairs.
"And then the rest is upstairs."

Even now he had to share one tiny dorm room with someone who radiated death.

She went to push the last door open. "... is mine and Bod's room."
With seventies decor just like the rest of the house, a desk, a closet, a sofabed, and a few happy couple pictures hanging on the wall next to a bulletin board. It was cozy enough.
