Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

"You pull it off wonderfully," Luke said. He looked down at the drink in Kate's hand. "What the hell is that?"

"Oh, this?"

She glanced down at the drink, then held it up again. "This, my friend, is something myself and Jack brought back from the Bahamas to remind us that things can be shitty but they turn out okay eventually. Or something. It's rum and... other stuff."

"Ah." That didn't sound appetizing at all. "I think I'll stick to beer. Me and rum haven't been friends since Brazil."

"Well, it is the favored drink of all those wanting to repress things in exotic locales." With her it had been the realization that vampires existed, but it was a versatile thing. "How is that going, anyway, post genderbendingly named kids?"

"We're back together, sort of," Luke said. "Taking things slow and there's no mention of love or boyfriends or anything like that, but yeah, we're dating again."

"Oh my God, Luke, that's great!" Kate enthused. It was in her nature. Plus, she was drinking. "That's awesome. I'm happy for you."

"Thanks," he said, smiling a little. "It kinda came out of nowhere so I'm still getting used to it, but it's a nice surprise."

"I bet." No, she knew, having been there herself at one point, more or less. "Although I do feel like I should be making threatening speeches to Percy about being nice to you, now."

"I've given Percy more than enough reasons to be mean to me if he wanted to," Luke said, shaking his head. "I doubt any conversation between you and him would go well anyway. He wasn't thrilled about me coming here, seems to think you might give me cooties."

Kate snorted. "He's aware that it's a little too late to worry about that, right?" she checked. "I mean, I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I'm still pretty sure I've seen your stuff lying around even when you haven't been here."

"He knows, but Percy and logic don't mix well when he doesn't like somebody," Luke shared. "And sorry about leaving my stuff around. I do that everywhere 'cause I'm not used to the concept of luggage."

Kate waved her drink-free hand. "No big deal. I still have a few boxes' worth of stuff to haul over from next door, and they're all over the place. I can't complain about anyone else leaving their stuff around."

"Well if you see my clothes around you're welcome to wear them," Luke said. "I have about a million Camp Half Blood shirts to spare."

Because Kate would want to wear bright orange, sure.

"Those orange monstrosities?" Kate checked. "Think I'll pass. Pretty sure that's not my color. Or anyone else's, actually."

That wouldn't stop her from wearing one as a nightshirt when she inevitably ran out of clean clothes, however.

"Yeah I don't know how that became the official camp color," Luke admitted. "It was set in place way before I got there."

"Compromise," Kate decided. "A couple of people had favorite colors, they got into an argument, and the end result was picking a color no one liked at all."

"Someone has to like orange," Luke said. "It can't be a universally hated color."

"I don't know, I'd bet on it being hated pretty far and wide," Kate mused. "I mean, like, that maybe there's a universe somewhere out there where it's just the most loathed thing ever."

"You can say that about anything," Luke said, chuckling. "You're gonna hate this, but that was very Percy-like logic."

Kate pretended to be outraged, gasping and reaching out to smack his shoulder. "Dude, harsh. How can you say that to your hostess?"

"Because I'm confident you won't throw me out," Luke joked. "I'll make it up to you somehow, I promise."

"Don't push your luck, I'll make you sleep outside," Kate teased. "Or in Wheels's crib!"

"Make me sleep in a crib because I compared you to the guy I care about?" Luke asked. "It was a compliment!"

"That'd work better if I didn't know who this guy is," Kate retorted. "But okay, maybe you'll get to sleep in a bed. Or at least on a mattress."

"I appreciate it," Luke said with a smile. "Though now I'm tempted to let you drunk dial him later now that I see all this animosity."
