Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

"Yeah I don't know how that became the official camp color," Luke admitted. "It was set in place way before I got there."

"Compromise," Kate decided. "A couple of people had favorite colors, they got into an argument, and the end result was picking a color no one liked at all."

"Someone has to like orange," Luke said. "It can't be a universally hated color."

"I don't know, I'd bet on it being hated pretty far and wide," Kate mused. "I mean, like, that maybe there's a universe somewhere out there where it's just the most loathed thing ever."

"You can say that about anything," Luke said, chuckling. "You're gonna hate this, but that was very Percy-like logic."

Kate pretended to be outraged, gasping and reaching out to smack his shoulder. "Dude, harsh. How can you say that to your hostess?"

"Because I'm confident you won't throw me out," Luke joked. "I'll make it up to you somehow, I promise."

"Don't push your luck, I'll make you sleep outside," Kate teased. "Or in Wheels's crib!"

"Make me sleep in a crib because I compared you to the guy I care about?" Luke asked. "It was a compliment!"

"That'd work better if I didn't know who this guy is," Kate retorted. "But okay, maybe you'll get to sleep in a bed. Or at least on a mattress."

"I appreciate it," Luke said with a smile. "Though now I'm tempted to let you drunk dial him later now that I see all this animosity."

"Hey," Kate protested, "I'm totally planning to be civil with him from now on!"

Pause.

"Please don't let me drunk dial him."

"I won't. Unless I think it'd be really funny." He had to be honest about that. "I asked him to be civil to you but he refused, saying he'd hate you if he wanted to. Such a brat."

"Oh, he's such a bratty brat," Kate agreed. "And mostly? I think I've basically resolved to start calling him by his name, instead of just kid. He's getting too old for that, anyway."

Plus Kate had too much respect for him, these days. But hse'd keep that to herself.

"And I can't tell you how happy I am about that," Luke said. "The age difference is always gonna be a thing though, if our kids are any indication."

"Best just get used to it, pretty much," Kate nodded. "And I mean, isn't it gonna get a little better as you both get older? Assuming you don't magically keep aging, like, three years for each one of his."

"I think we'll be set at seven years difference. Hopefully," he said. "Percy's actually supposed to be fifteen still in his universe. Time moves super slow there and the prophecy about us is centered around his sixteenth birthday but he passed that a while ago here. He'll be seventeen in August."

"... Wow, God, that's seriously confusing."

You don't say, Kate.

"Wait, so, how old are you again?"

Luke sighed. "Technically I'll be twenty-four in October but I'll have only actually experienced twenty of those years thanks to Fandom."

"Okay, so a year older than me but technically five. Gotcha." She was still going to just keep on getting confused forever, she knew it. "I don't know why I find that weird, I mean, you're nowhere near the oldest person invited to this thing or anything."

"Probably seems so weird because I'm still in high school." He was determined to finish though.

"Well, you only have one more year to go, right?" she asked, taking a sip of her lethal looking drink. "Any idea what you'll do after? Bearing in mind that I've been out of school for a year and still barely know what I'm doing."

"Not a damn clue. I never expected to have to do the whole mortal job thing," Luke said. "Always kind of expected to go out fighting...which I did. Just never expected to come back."

"World's wide open when you've been resurrected, huh?" Kate replied with a little smile. "Is this where I oh so seriously suggest becoming a flight attendant? It'd fit, you already have wings on your shoes and stuff!"

"And wear that outfit? Not on your life," Luke teased. "I actually think it all depends on Percy, honestly. It's gonna be hard once he figures out I should be dead in every universe. He's very close to his mom and I don't think he'd want to live away from her. But I don't see how I can go walking around in his universe without a god picking up on it."
