Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

And boggle at the quaintness of Kansan suburbia. Oak Avenue looks mighty normal for a place that spawned Kate, no?

And naturally, Marshall is pretty much on door-duty.

In the living room! There's booze and snacks on the side table! Of course.

Yay party!

There'll probably be another post tomorrow for all your hangover (or whathaveyou) needs.

Kate, in her pretty dresse, was totally trying to recreate the poison green Bahaman rum drinks again.

Of course she was.

Marshall was spending a lot of his time in the kitchen, under the pretense of making more overly elaborate snacks.

Really, he was still just a little bit socially awkward.

Bobby was pretty sure Portalocity made up for technically being an incredibly convenient method of travel by shoehorning in little inconveniences wherever they could. Like that two-hour layover in Madripoor. And then dropping him off three blocks from Kate's house.

He knocked on the door, hoping he had the right place.

Bod didn't really need to arrive as he'd been there the whole time. He was sitting on the couch, idly flipping through a book while he waited for guests to arrive. He wasn't going to apologize for being a nerd at Kate's party.

Marshall came to the door. Wearing an apron, naturally. Happened when you'd just been cooking.

"Hi," he said, with a welcoming little smile, then paused. "... Bobby, right?"

They'd met, but it had been for about five minutes, two years ago. It took a moment.

"Hi. Welcome."

Jack had never been this far inland in America; he shouldn't have been as surprised as he was that it looked exactly as it did on television. It was positively quaint.

He adjusted his napsack full of overnight necessities and Walker's crisps for Kate on his shoulder and rang the bell.

[OOC: On SP until this evening, woe.]

This one wasn't someone Marshall readily recognized, when he came to the door.

"Hi," he said. "Kate's friend?"

It was both to check that he was a guest they were expecting, and to prompt him into giving his name if he was.

Luke had been here a ton of times before so he didn't feel uncomfortable at all with the quaint settings. He also felt comfortable enough with just letting himself in but since it was a party he knocked on the door just to set a good example.

"That's my name, don't wear it out," Bobby confirmed. "Guess that means I've got the right place after all."

Annnnd incoming pouncetacklehug from a former roomie in 3, 2...

"Hey!"

Yeah, people here probably wouldn't have batted an eye if he'd just appeared in the middle of their kitchen or something.

Exhibit A:

Marshall smile was a little less awkward and hesitant when he opened the door to find Luke behind it. "Hey," he said. "Kate thought you were just going to find your own way in."

"If you were looking for... what's currently the Gregson – Owens household, then yes," Marshall agreed, stepping out of the way. "Come on in."

"Hiiii!"

Oh, Kate could deal with pouncetacklehugs, definitely. Even on the receiving end, she could manage a bit of pounce and tackle of her own.

"You made it!"

"Well I didn't want to scare any normal people that might be here," Luke said, moving to pull Marshall into a one armed hug. "How've you been?"

If he was being a little more affectionate and concerned than usual, well, he had heard about Lionel.

"Well don't you look adorable," Luke teased when he spotted Kate. He had gone straight from Marshall to the living room since he hadn't brought any overnight stuff with him. Everything he needed was a snap of his fingers away anyway and he wouldn't have been surprised if he had accidentally left some clothes here before.

Luke grabbed a beer and took a seat, making himself at home. It'd been a while since he had been to a party but it was a lot like riding a bike so he didn't feel all that awkward.

"Well, for a while there I was worried I'd end up stuck in Madripoor, but my portal came through after all," Bobby rolled his eyes. "It's good to see you."

Snacks? Bobby's middle name was snacks!

Well, Louis, actually. But it totally should've been snacks.

Marshall figured that was he case. Kate liked to talk, and Kate liked to talk to Luke more than most.

He returned the half hug, though he didn't linger. His smile was faint and wry. "I'm fine." A pause, reconsidering. "Or, getting there."

"It's good to see you too," Kate replied, grinning. She had friends over, happiness was allowed. "How've you been? What've you been doing? Sorry I suck at keeping in touch."

Yeah, that was entirely possible. Though Kate would've been surprised to be able to find them anymore.

"Why thank you," she smirked, toasting him with her poisonous-looking drink. "That was totally the idea."
