Party!!!, Overland Park, KS, Sunday FT

Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

[Minor OCD coming up! And like I said in the invite, come one and all!]

Oh, Kate could deal with pouncetacklehugs, definitely. Even on the receiving end, she could manage a bit of pounce and tackle of her own.

"Well, for a while there I was worried I'd end up stuck in Madripoor, but my portal came through after all," Bobby rolled his eyes. "It's good to see you."

"It's good to see you too," Kate replied, grinning. She had friends over, happiness was allowed. "How've you been? What've you been doing? Sorry I suck at keeping in touch."

"Oh, you know, final exams," which would've mostly been a formality even if they hadn't had that whole 'pretend to be normal' craziness going on, "and a bit of a scare with the school board threatening to shut us down." Okay, it had mostly been Colbert rather than the entire board, but. Like Bobby knew that.

"Well don't you look adorable," Luke teased when he spotted Kate. He had gone straight from Marshall to the living room since he hadn't brought any overnight stuff with him. Everything he needed was a snap of his fingers away anyway and he wouldn't have been surprised if he had accidentally left some clothes here before.

Yeah, that was entirely possible. Though Kate would've been surprised to be able to find them anymore.

"Why thank you," she smirked, toasting him with her poisonous-looking drink. "That was totally the idea."

"You pull it off wonderfully," Luke said. He looked down at the drink in Kate's hand. "What the hell is that?"

She glanced down at the drink, then held it up again. "This, my friend, is something myself and Jack brought back from the Bahamas to remind us that things can be shitty but they turn out okay eventually. Or something. It's rum and... other stuff."

Well, Kate was going to. Kind of. She had a glass so it was more like a single muffled clap, but still.

"Eric!" Okay, if Mitchell looked out of place here, then Eric looked about doubly so. "Wow. I didn't expect you to actually show up."

First things first, find the hostess and make up for not RSVP'ing by offering booze. It seemed like a good deal to Angela.

Bottles were raised with a "Happy Free From Family Day?" greeting. It was almost like having a Birthday.

It really was.

"Angela!" Kate exclaimed, grinning, and not just because of the added booze though that was nice too. "Thank you! And, you know, hi and everything."

"And hi," Angela agreed. "I really hope you don't mind surprise extras. I was meaning to email and got all caught up in trying to move, and..." Then she was here.

"You know what I've learned? Never leave packing to the last minute." That resolution would last approximately a week. Or less.

"Yeah, you know, I've never learned that." So it was good that her last two big moves had happened... between this house and the one next door. "And don't worry about it, I basically assumed maybe a third of people would RSVP, and everyone else is just as lazy and unorganized as I am."
