Party!!!, Overland Park, KS, Sunday FT

Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

[Minor OCD coming up! And like I said in the invite, come one and all!]

Bobby was pretty sure Portalocity made up for technically being an incredibly convenient method of travel by shoehorning in little inconveniences wherever they could. Like that two-hour layover in Madripoor. And then dropping him off three blocks from Kate's house.

He knocked on the door, hoping he had the right place.

Marshall came to the door. Wearing an apron, naturally. Happened when you'd just been cooking.

"Hi," he said, with a welcoming little smile, then paused. "... Bobby, right?"

They'd met, but it had been for about five minutes, two years ago. It took a moment.

"Hi. Welcome."

"That's my name, don't wear it out," Bobby confirmed. "Guess that means I've got the right place after all."

"If you were looking for... what's currently the Gregson – Owens household, then yes," Marshall agreed, stepping out of the way. "Come on in."

"Thanks, man," Bobby replied. "So how come you ended up with door duty?"

Marshall smiled a little bit. "Kate says she's busy trying to get the green in her drink just right."

So basically, he was just a nice person.

"Oh, wouldn't want her to get distracted then," Bobby said, with a fond sort of eyeroll.

"Yeah," Marshall agreed wryly. Since Bobby was the guy who'd had to live with Kate most consistently after him. "She's in the living room."
