Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

[Minor OCD coming up! And like I said in the invite, come one and all!]

Mitchell had come in in a ping yet to be posted since I'm still waiting on someone and now he was engaging in the next sensical step, aka sitting down.

And grabbing a beer.

"Hey," he said to the room at large, and then popped open the beer.

Well, this was news to Kate because it wasn't like she'd managed to go to the door even once today.

"Well, it is just a portal and a skip away," Mitchell said sagely, and took a sip of his beer.

His mouth broke into a smile a moment later.

"Well, you haven't made it before," Kate said, reaching out to nudge his shoulder with her hand. "Not that I've invited you before but still. You have no idea how weird it looks that you're sitting there."

"You have no idea how weird it is to see you in a suburb," Mitchell returned. "It's unnatural, is what it is."

"Ew," Mitchell echoed, but he was grinning. "But it's your castle for now."

"It is," she replied, grinning happily. "Well, mine and Bod's and Moosh's, but I think we all know who's really in charge here."

"So he's staying here for good, is he?" Mitchell asked. That was a good thing, if you asked him.

Call it big brotherly tendencies towards beating Bod up if he left Kate in the cold.

"Looks that way," Kate said, shrugging. Still smiling. "I mean, he's still half living in Fandom but mostly? He's here."

And that made her happier than she cared to say.

"Well, that bit's a little fuzzy," she admitted with another easy shrug. "I mean, I know he wants to travel after graduation, but probably not immediately? And I'm gonna be stuck here for a few months, at least. But we're not, like, intending to break up or anything any time soon."

Mitchell shrugged idly. "At least they have decent import," he decided. "Though I wouldn't know why anyone would want to live here permanently."

"Zeus Clan," Eric said vaguely. "Not entirely sure who's in charge here at the moment. Things have been fluid since Arkansas died."
