From the School to the Arms Hotel, Sunday Evening

One moment, Kate was standing in the school with a knife in her hand, practically wishing the last few Loyalists would come at her so she could hurt some more people, like that'd help her.

The next, the knife was gone and it was a very different Kate standing in that exact same spot.

And then she was off and running, scrambling her way out of the school and out the gates and making some kind of a personal record with the way she ran through town to the hotel. They'd had a hotel room, see, her and Bod, before this whole thing had started. And he had to be there. He had to be there.

She ended up repeatedly slamming her fist against the hotel room door once she got there. "Bod? Bod!"

"I know you do," he murmured, rubbing her back and soothing her further. "I love you too. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to leave you."

"Good. Good." She buried her face against his neck. "I'm so tired. I barely slept, the last two days. Too busy... guarding."

"Do you want to lay down?" Bod asked her, still rubbing her back and using soothing noises to calm her down. "Do you think you could sleep?"

"Maybe?"

She honestly didn't know, with the way she was feeling. But she thought she might try. The thought seemed appealing.

He wasn't going to be allowed to leave her side, though.

"Would you like to try?" Bod asked quietly. "Or did you want to eat first?"

He'd gotten distracted with comforting her and forgotten about food.

"I could maybe eat a little bit, first?" Kate offered. She wasn't sure why everything was a question but she'd had a long week. A really, really long week. "Probably need a snack."

[therewaslife]

"All right, let me order something since we don't have anything in the room," Bod said, kissing her cheek again and moving towards the phone. He didn't let go of her since she seemed to be a little more calm when she was holding onto him. "It shouldn't take long."

Kate nodded, and followed along because she had no intention of letting go of him right now. None.

She was happy he was dealing with that.

It didn't take long for Bod to order just two sandwiches, some cookies, and some fruit. He knew she just wanted a snack but he wanted something for a little later when he thought she might get hungry. With that done, he hung the phone up and turned back to her.

"It shouldn't be too long," he murmured, smiling. "Would you like to change?"

"Uh, maybe." So sue her, she'd been thinking for herself for a week and if she wanted to seem incapable of the simplest decisions right now, then so be it. "Where'd I put my bag?"

She hadn't seen it in a week.

[therewaslife]

"It's in the bedroom," he said, nodding towards said bedroom. "Just through there."

"Okay."

And yes, she was dragging him along with her to the bedroom, now. Not letting go.

Bod went along easily. If she wanted him to be with her, he'd be with her. He knew she needed it so he followed quietly and pointed at her bag which was sitting on the floor near the bed.

"There it is," he told her. "Clean clothes just waiting for you."

"Great," Kate said. And okay, she did let go of his hand to reach for the bag because while she was clingy, she wasn't going to be ridiculous.

Not that ridiculous, anyway. "Man, I barely remember what I packed."

Bod sat down on the bed, hands in his lap and watched while she looked through her bag. "I'm sure you have something comfortable in there. Something for lounging and relaxing that's still fashionable."

Kate snorted, and even smiled s little.

"Probably," she said, glancing over. "Although the comfortable bit is gonna be the most important thing right now."

"If you don't find anything that satisfies you, I'm sure I can let you borrow a few of my clothes as well," Bod told her, nodding. "I know how you like them."

Kate responded to that by pulling a t-shirt out of her bag.

It was one of his.

"Way ahead of you, boyfriend."

Chuckling, Bod leaned back on his hands and gave her another smile. "Did you want a pair of shorts as well or just the shirt for now?"

"I think I've got a pair of shorts of my own," Kate said, and managed to pull a pair out of her bag a moment later. "This'll totally make for a stylish but comfy outfit, right?"

"I think so," Bod said before standing up when he heard a knock at the door. He did wait for Kate to change before leaving though. "And considering I'll be the only one to see you, I wouldn't care if it wasn't stylish anyway."

Kate was quick to get changed. They were uncomplicated clothes, and all. Soon enough, she was clad in shorts and his shirt.

"You wouldn't know if it wasn't," she teased.

"You're right, I wouldn't," Bod laughed, gesturing her towards the front room so they could get the food and relax a little further with each other.

She followed easily, tugging on the hem of her shirt. Something that could be seen as pajamas was almost novel right now, after a week of wearing practically the same clothes all the time.

"That's why you have me."

"Indeed," Bod said, making his way to the front door to take the food and tip the man at the door. He closed the door and turned back to her. "Still hungry?"
