Hallmark Visitors Center, KCMO, Monday Afternoon

Days off for both Kate and Bod at the same time didn't come around every day. (Which made sense, because if they had, it would've probably meant they were both out of a job.) But once they did, sometimes you had to take advantage, by going out and doing something silly. Like going to see a local attraction! You know, like the Hallmark Visitors Center. Kate's choice, naturally.

She hadn't even realized the place was a thing before looking up possible attractions to visit, earlier today.

She was already heading for the gift shop about as soon as they were through the doors, though. Impatience would have been her middle name if her parents hadn't decided to go with Michelle instead. "I need to check out the cheesy card selection like right now."

Oh, Bod. Kate whipped around, eyebrows comically raised.

"You don't know what Dusk is? Seriously?"

"I know that dusk is when the sun is going down but I don't think that's what you meant, is it?" Bod asked, shrugging.

"No, I mean the shitty, cheesy supernatural romance novel series turned into shitty, cheesy supernatural romance movie series." Wasn't it nice Kate was so ready to educate. "I can't believe you don't know it. You're so lucky."

"Apparently, I've been oblivious," Bod said because it sounded like he really had. "I guess I just tend to...not be in that genre of books when in the bookstore?"

"Yeah but it's like... this huge thing. It's been for years." Years, Bod! "You have the best selective vision ever."

"Do you like the series that much?" Bod had to ask. "You seem to be quite passionate about it."

[vanillajello]

"Oh my God, you take that back right now!" Kate exclaimed. "It's only good for mocking. I only like it ironically. And mostly not even then."

"Have you read the books when I haven't been looking?" Bod wondered, grinning.

[vanillajello]

"No." Beat. "Because I read them before you even knew me."

[therewaslife]

"And have you seen the movies?" he asked, still sounding amused.

[vanillajello]

"Well duh, everyone but you has seen the movies."

Great excuse.

[therewaslife]

"And after your ringing endorsement, I doubt I'll be going out to see said movies either," Bod said, picking up a card with a dog on it and reading it. "I'll just tease you about it."

"Oh, I'm gonna make you watch all of them, now," Kate threatened. "That's five films about a human-vampire-werewolf love triangle. With sparkling."

"Now Kate, I love you very much but I don't know if you can make me watch a movie I'd rather not watch," Bod pointed out.

"I can totally trap you on the couch and make you watch," she argued. "I can."

[therewaslife]

"You can trap me on the couch?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "How would you do that, dearest?"

"I'd sit on your lap. Come on."

She thought this was perfectly obvious.

"You could but that wouldn't trap me," Bod pointed out, "because I could just stand up and carry you which means I could life you off me."

[vanillajello]

"I have handcuffs, though," Kate pointed out as she reached for a Saint Patrick's Day card. "And I wouldn't just let you lift me, either."

[therewaslife]

"Yes, but unlike the bed," Bod said, putting the card he'd been looking at back in its place, "the couch has nowhere for you to handcuff me to, remember."

"Yeah but I'm creative and resourceful," she replied, gesturing at him with the card. "Don't be so sure of yourself."

[therewaslife]

"I can be confident," he stated, almost smug. "While you might be creative and resourceful, the same can be said for me as well."

[vanillajello]

"Don't be smug," Kate chided him lightly, giving him a little nudge with her elbow. "You haven't proved anything yet."

[therewaslife]

"And neither have you," Bod said, nudging her back. "So, I can be confident. It's not smugness."

It was smugness.

Kate snorted. "You're talking to me, Bod," she pointed out. "Okay? I know smug when I see it, so you can just stop arguing about that right now."
