Room 324, Late Wednesday Afternoon

After hanging around Mitchell's office and going to her only class of the day, Kate had come back to her room and was actually doing some homework for once.

Funnily enough, it looked exactly like lazing about, as it consisted of googling around for films or books that she could connect to haptephobia. It wasn't really hard work; there were many things that could easily be linked to a fear of touching.

She was also trying to figure out a good time to go back home for a bit. A weekend, most likely. She hadn't seen her family since Christmas, and she was starting to feel it. Still somehow used to having them around and annoying her all the time. So, a trip back was in order. Actually having to be with them would make her remember why she'd decided to leave in the first place.

All this thinking was taking place on her bed with her laptop in front of her, of course. Kate only ever used her desk for storage purposes, or so it seemed. And, for a change, she wasn't snacking on anything. There had been cake, come on. She had limits.

... Also, she just hadn't had the energy to go out and get anything.

When Bod appeared in her door way, he was snacking on something. He'd saved a few of the things he'd bought yesterday and thus was having a muffin for brunch.

With his classes for the week done and gone, filling up his free time was taking precedence and a stop at her open door seemed to be a good way to start, at least.

"You're either very busy or attempting to look busy to put people off," he said, leaning a shoulder against the frame.

"I'm about as busy as I ever am," Kate informed him, looking up and flashing him a smile. "Which is... not very. But I am doing my homework."

Or looking at shirts from Hot Topic. One of those.

"And what is your homework?" he wondered, curious. "Playing solitaire? I've know solitaire to keep people very busy in the past."

"Online windowshopping for clothes," she replied, chuckling lightly. "It consumes time and energy like you wouldn't believe."

"What's wrong with the clothes you have now?" he wondered, eyes flicking down to the clothes of hers he could see. Obviously, he hadn't picked up on concepts like retail therapy and buying just to buy.

"Nothing," Kate snickered. The hoodie - top - short skirt - leggins combo was awesome, thanks. "Sorry, I should've realized that shopping for fun might not be something you're familiar with."

"Shopping in general is not something I'm familiar with," he said, pushing away from her door and padding closer. "I never did it for myself. For the first few years of my life, I wear a gray shift around the graveyard."

"And didn't get snatched up by the fashion police?" she teased. "Jesus, the things you get away with over there."

She was sprawled on her stomach on the bed, but tried to make at least a little bit of room by shifting some.

"Shopping's fun. At least when you have the money, which I really don't."

"Yes, because the ghosts were so concerned about what I was wearing," he teased back, taking a seat on the edge of the bed and glancing at her screen. "I don't either. Well, I should say I have some that Silas gave me before I left but I shouldn't use that on clothes when what I have is perfectly fine."

"Well, you're a guy," she said, looking at a top with a big skull print on it. Because she obviously needed more of those. "It's a lot easier for you get away with not caring about clothes, anyway."

"Is that your subtle way of saying my clothes are rather lacking?" he asked, fingering his dark t-shirt and jeans.

Snort. "No. If I thought that, I would tell you to your face, and there wouldn't be anything subtle about it."

"Really?" he asked, amused. "What do you think of my clothes, then?"

Jaime was wandering down the hall and poked his head into the room. "Oh, hey, the evil one." His grin was kind of hard to miss since the only part of him visible through the doorway was his head.

"Mmhmm, that's me," Kate nodded, smirking at him from where she was sitting on the bed. "Why so happy?"

"What? A guy can't just be happy for no reason?" Just because he did have a reason, well, that was beside the point.

Kate raised an eyebrow, looking amused. "Before you asked that, I woulda said yes. But now you just sounded defensive, so I'm going to guess there is a reason."

"Well, maybe," Jaime grinned a bit more broadly. "But a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell." Even (maybe even especially?) when there had been quite a lot of kissing involved.

Wasn't going to stop Kate from prying. "Oooh, there was kissing? Who with?"

Jaime grinned and rolled his eyes. "Didn't I just tell you that a gentleman doesn't tell?" Not that many people mistook Jaime for a 'gentleman'. For one thing: where was his top hat?

"Yes, you did, but we're talking about you, now."

Where was his top hat?

Sadly, Jaime had no top hat. They hadn't been on sale when he'd bought his tux. Which was the reason no one took him seriously. (The only reason, mind you.)

"Was that a subtle dig at my gentlemanlyness?" Jaime asked, trying to pout. With about all the success that anyone might expect of him.

"I don't think it was all that subtle, really," Kate said, pursing her lips thoughtfully. "And you're failing at looking sad about it. As you often do."

"And now you're denigrating my acting skills!" He was shocked. And appalled.

Or, you know, not.

"Yes, yes I am," she nodded. "You're so smart!" Beat. "And now I was sarcastic at you, in case you wanted to point that out too."
