Room 324, Tuesday After Classes

After drawing in film class and playing lasertag in writing class, Kate was back in her room, happy to spend the rest of the day reading and listening to music.

Bobby was there too, of course, waddling around as usual. Kate nudged the little red ball towards him before sitting down on her bed and grabbing a book – an old play – off the pile on the table.

Bobby glanced at the ball, giving it a kick with one webbed foot and sending it across the room so it hit the wall and bounced back to him. He did this a few times before letting out a tiny penguin-sized yawn.

Look, being a penguin was exhausting, okay?

Kate glanced at him over her book with an amused smile. "You're tired? You haven't even done anything today."

Bobby squawked defiantly back at her. He'd done... stuff! You know, kicked the ball around, wandered around the room... all very tiring!

Which is why he was now attempting to scramble up onto the bed. Kate's, of course, not his own, because that would just be silly.

Kate sighed theatrically, put her book down, got up, and reached down to help him onto the bed.

This was why Kate was totally the best roommate ever! Bobby settled himself on Kate's pillow and, with another yawn, closed his eyes.

Of course, that would be *exactly* when Fandom decided it was time for him to change back. Sans clothes, as was traditional.

Kate let out a startled scream, and a few swearwords. Fandom's sense of timing? Complete and utter crap.

Then she jumped up from the bed and shut her eyes. She had been preparing for this. No need to panic. Or, at least, to panic more.

"What? What?" Bobby squa- er, shouted. It took a few seconds for the fact that he was actually *speaking English* to filter down into his brain, but when it finally did, he froze.

Not literally, just in the "oh god can't move" sense. "I didn't do it on purpose!" he tried.

"I know that, Bobby," she sighed. "This isn't the first time this has happened, remember?"

She clamped her hands over her eyes. "There are clothes on your bed." And lo and behold, there were. Because she had been preparing for this.

"Right, right, yes, thank you..." Bobby muttered. This really would be much less embarrassing if he could ice up, stupid secret identity. He scrambled off the bed and over to his own and quickly put on his clothes.

"You can look now," he told Kate, completely oblivious to the fact that his t-shirt was on inside-out and backwards. He'd been in a hurry!

She lowered her hands and opened her eyes. And giggled a bit at his shirt.

"So. Welcome back. Your shirt is on funny."

"Thanks, I- what?" Bobby looked down and groaned. "Apparently not having to get dressed for a week took its toll on my ability to actually dress myself," he said with a sigh as he wriggled out of the shirt to fix it.

"Apparently," Kate said with an amused smile.

"There was talk of putting some penguin-sized clothes on you, but I voted against it."

"Best roommate ever," Bobby said gratefully. "Clothes on animals is just cruel and unusual punishment."

"That's pretty much what I said. Also, Mr. Deadpool wanted to make you swim in a kiddie pool with icy water."

Bobby nodded. "I think I remember something about that. Wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't also wanted to charge money and make it a spectator sport."

"I know, that was the worst part of it," Kate nodded. "He's... a very special person."

[longislandiceme]

"Seriously," Bobby said. "I mean, who walks around in pyj- sorry, a *costume*, all the time?" He was pretty sure even the bad guys in his world wore normal clothes sometimes.

"Maybe he's really sleepy all the time?" Kate offered with a grin.

"Let's see, what else was I supposed to tell you about? Um, Tybalt told me to thank you. It had something to do with him having a swimming date this week." Actually, Kate knew that the actual message behind the words was meant for her, but she decided to pass it on anyway.

"Oh, and do you remember that you kinda seemed like you were going to eat him?"

"He smelled like food," Bobby shrugged. "...And why would he be thanking me for something date related?"

"I don't know. It had something to do with you being penguin-shaped," Kate said with a shrug. "I think he was only saying it to send a message to me, anyway."

"Okay," Bobby shrugged. He'd probably be a lot less relaxed about the whole thing if he knew who Tybalt was going on a swimming date with. "I'm glad me being a penguin was good for something, then."

"Apparently it was. Not completely useless, then."

She couldn't resist adding something else. "Also, the general opinion was that you brought a lot more cuteness and adorableness into the world."

"Hah," Bobby scoffed. "I don't need to be a penguin to do that!"

"So, Hannibal tells you you're adorable all the time, huh?"

[longislandiceme]

"Well, maybe not Hannibal," Bobby admitted. "But, you know. Girls. It's always been that way. Zelda at the Cafe-A-Go-Go back home totally thinks I'm cute." In a little-brother sort of way, but shh don't burst his bubble.

"Okay, you are cute. But you were cuter as a penguin. People just don't do well in the human versus penguin cute-off," she smirked. Man, was she glad to have him human-shaped again.

"I guess I can't really argue with that," Bobby admitted. "Penguins are pretty freaking awesome."

"My only complaint would probably be that the legs are just too short for this kind of environment. It took you forever to get anywhere on your own."

[longislandiceme]

"One of the many reasons I'm lucky to have you as a roomie," Bobby grinned. "It was awfully nice of you to carry me around. I won't ask you to do that now that I have feet that aren't little and webbed."
