Jelly Bean B2, Early Monday Morning

There was no one holding Kate as she woke up on Monday morning. She'd expected it, of course, but it was still not a nice feeling to wake up and find herself alone.

Especially when it was fairly permanent kind of alone.

She reached behind her, fingers scraping against the mattress until they found the necklace and closed around it. She pushed herself up enough to get it around her neck more easily, then slumped back down to the same position she'd gone to sleep in. Still taking up only half of her narrow bed for no real reason at all.

As if he was going to come back if she left him some room. It was idiotic and sad and made no sense, but it was early in the morning and she thought it was allowed.

"Busted," Kate snickered. "Yes. It would."

"And yet, I don't know how me blushing would get me in trouble either," he pointed out. "I blush all the time, as you like to point out."

"Yeah, but finding out would be half the fun," she mused. "Or maybe a third of the fun. Something like that."

[therewaslife]

"Who would be finding out?" Bod wondered, reaching around to kiss her cheek again. "What makes you think I would tell anyone?"

"Finding out how blushing could get you in trouble," she clarified. "I really don't think you'd tell anyone."

[therewaslife]

"Blushing wouldn't get me in trouble," he decided with a shake of his head. "I'm not the only one in the world that blushes."

"Then my dirty thoughts won't get me in trouble either," Kate decided. "I'm not the only one in the world who has those."

[therewaslife]

"You are the only one in the world who has those about me." That he knew of, of course. He didn't think anyone else thought of him in the way she did.

"That you know of," Kate pointed out. She thought it was entirely possible there were others. "And that's not any more likely to get me into trouble."

"You really think someone else could be thinking about me like you?" He shook his head. "I don't."

"Why not?" she asked. "It's not like that's my own personal little superpower."

[therewaslife]

"I don't think that many people see me that way," he said and shrugged. "It takes a lot of patience to see me that way, I think."

[vanillajello]

"Yes, well, you are not other people and can't see yourself from the outside," Kate pointed out. "I don't think it takes much patience. For one thing, I don't have a lot of patience."

"But I don't think you saw me that first time and immediately started thinking dirtily," he replied, shrugging. "I just don't see myself that way, I suppose."

He paused and kissed the back of her shoulder. "It's hard to believe you see me like that sometimes."

"Well I do," she replied, sighing. "Don't forget it."

"I'm doing my best," he promised, laying his head back down beside hers. "Like you said earlier, I'm learning how to live with the...living."

[vanillajello]

"The living and breathing and dirty thinking and blushing," Kate supplied. Somehow she was more aware of the necklace in her hand again, so she played with it a little, idly twisting the chain around her fingers. "Tough gig."

"I think it can be tough for anyone," Bod said, sighing himself now. "Not just me."

"Everything can be tough for everyone," Kate replied, ligtly. "Sometimes."

[therewaslife]

"I know," he agreed quietly. "It's tough but it's worth it."

[vanillajello]

Kate didn't say anything straight away. Her open bag was near the bed, and she reached a bit so she could carefully let the necklace fall out of her hand and safely into the bag.

Having done that, she moved to turn around in his embrace. Hadn't actually even seen his face today, and she wanted to.

"Hullo, Kate," he said once she'd turned around and he could see her. "How are you feeling?"

"I've had better days," she replied, honestly, settling against him again. "But I've had worse ones too."

[therewaslife]

"Bad days can't last forever," he said, smiling a bit at her. "Things will get better. I believe that."

[vanillajello]

"Optimist," she chided with a wry smirk. "I just think things often get worse, which makes the original bad days seem better in comparison."
