Overland Park, KS, A Morning in May [Sunday Fandom Time]

Something that had been very very rare lately was happening right now: Kate was waking up happy.

Last night, Overland Park time, there had been a thing at her parents' house, just a get-together with snacks at the insistence of her mother. Neil had been there and there had been much fussing over Charmaine, and it should've been lame but... It hadn't been. Kate had actually had fun. In a dorky way. She'd even found herself gossiping in the kitchen with her mother while they got more dip and soda for everyone. It was insane, but oh so damn needed.

Kate knew she was repressing many a thing waiting for her back in Fandom, but she thought that was allowed. Anything that kept her holding on to her sanity was totally allowed. And right now, being in this room and slowly drifting to proper wakefulness without immediately stressing herself out with what other people were doing was what her sanity needed.

With a sigh, she rolled onto her back and smiled at the ceiling. It was a rare good day to be her.

"But I also already said there probably won't be anything as dramatic as a ravishing this morning after all," she pointed out. "All the shoving that can happen when we're already in bed is pretty much me pushing you onto your back."

"I guess you're right," he said and yawned before rolling back onto his stomach and bunching a pillow up under his head. "I'm still not handsome."

"You are," she insisted, propping her head up on one arm. "You are handsome. I'm not surprised you don't see it but it's there."

"You're biased," he joked and shook his head. "You're biased and you're my girlfriend so you have to say that."

"I don't have to say anything," she replied, idly reaching out her free hand to trace shapes against his back. "Do you really think I would ever deign to be girlfriend to someone I didn't think was handsome?"

"I don't know," Bod laughed, shrugging. "What if his personality was amazing?"

"I'm a shallow girl, Bod," she pointed out, if not entirely serious. "A personality can't save a poor face."

[therewaslife]

"Mmm." Bod smiled lazily at her. "I guess that just means I'm lucky to have what you think is a not poor face."

"It is most definitely not a poor face," Kate told him, as her hand crept up to touch said face. "You have a great jawline, and really good lips, and interesting eyes. No, it's not poor at all."

She should know, she'd spent and awful lot of time on looking at it.

"That's good," he murmured, closing his eyes again and smiling. "I'd hate to have a poor face. That has to make up for the rest of me."

Shaking her head, Kate ran her fingertips over his forehead and temple, down to his cheek, then along his jaw down to his chin.

"Make up for what?"

"The rest of me," he repeated because, well, maybe she hadn't heard him or something. "The rest of me is little dull, I know."

Kate promptly flicked him on the nose for that. "Don't be stupid."

"Ow," Bod said slowly, not really meaning. "I'm not being stupid, I'm just being truthful. It's all right, Kate, you can admit it. I can handle it."

"No, you are being stupid and I have no idea what you're talking about," Kate replied, pushing herself up some more to look him over. "Where is this dullness you speak of?"

She even made a show of lifting the blankets so that she could peer underneath, you know, just in case he had really dull legs and she'd somehow missed noticing that.

"I don't know!" Bod said, laughing at her investigation. "Maybe I don't look as...unique as others which, in turn, makes me a bit dull."

"As unique as who?" Kate asked, laughing. She was actually just sitting beside him now. Better vantage point. "You have Latin on your skin and everything!"

[therewaslife]

"I don't know who to compare it to but I'm sure people are unique, despite the Latin on my skin," Bod argued, still laughing.

[vanillajello]

"Possibly, but that doesn't make you dull," she said, shaking her head again. "Because you are not dull. Never ever."

[therewaslife]

"Mmm, I don't know if I'm going to believe you on that," Bod decided, snickering as he stretched out again, toes poking out from underneath the sheet. "Maybe I'll continue to think myself dull."

"Yeah, I really don't think so," Kate returned, leaning over him to kiss the back of his shoulder. "I don't think I'm gonna let you do that."

"You're going to stop my way of thinking?" Bod asked, sounding amused. "Interesting."

[vanillajello]

"Mmhmm," she answered, lips against his skin. "I think I might give it my best shot."

[therewaslife]

"That sounds like it could be difficult, trying to change my way of thinking," he murmured, sighing and enjoying that touch. "Good luck."

"I don't need luck." She moved to crawl over him. "I just need us."
