Overland Park, KS, Friday Afternoon (August)
The last weekend was still weighing on Kate, just a little bit. She figured that was unavoidable after you got pretend killed, but she'd been trying to keep herself occupied and distracted because it was probably for the best if she didn't think about it too hard.
This weekend was going to be better, though. Or at least that was the plan she was clinging to. She hadn't told anyone but Charmaine that she had a friend coming over, so she figured her whole family knew by now, because Char was not the greatest at not blabbing. Not that it was any major secret, Kate just would've preferred it if her family hadn't been likely to flock to be curious about her elusive Fandom friends.
But that was for later. As it got to be the afternoon, she wandered out of the house and down the street to where the portal tended to dump its transportees, and kept an eye on the houses nearby in case any neighbors decided to wander outside.
Oak Avenue had its fair share of weird without adding portal sightings to the mix.
[ooc: NFB, and for that guy. Not the usual one. The tall one with the scar, yeah, that one. But can be open for texts/calls before he shows up I s'pose!]

Okay, he'd half-tell what he had to do because he couldn't explain the whole "Kronos wearing him as a suit" thing to Kate now. That would make the weekend depressing.

"Guy with the heel, except not in a drag queen kind of way?" she checked. "Yeah."

"I've gotta go do that," Luke finished, wondering if this was too weird for even Kate to take.

"I see," she said, even if she didn't. She also failed to add anything.

Even if she didn't think there was as much of a chance of her ending up in danger unwittingly as there was when Mitchell tried keeping her in the dark.

And yes, she was probably going to mother hen the hell out of him over the weekend.
She inclined her head towards the door. "So, you wanna come in and get a truly distracting tiara now?"

As she pushed the door open and stepped in, they came almost imemdiately to the living room. It gave off a distinctly seventies vibe, just from color of the walls and the style of the furniture – or what you could see of the latter when most surfaces seemed to be covered in headbands and boxes of glitter and other tiara-making things. It was far less neat than Kate's parents' place, that was for sure.
"Aunt Charmaine, we're home!" Kate called out, absently. She'd spotted a box of the finished product and headed straight for it. "Now, let's see."

"Wow you weren't kidding about the tiaras."

Or something. She picked out a tiara. Or, more to the point, it was a narrow headband with blue rhinestones and some silver trimmings. It was actually pretty cute. If you weren't entirely opposed to sequined headbands which, granted, a lot of people were.
"I think this one would totally bring out your eyes."

"What are you guys doing?" came Charmaine's voice from the direction of the kitchen. "Are you gonna come here? 'Cause I dont feel like getting up."
"In a sec, Charmaine," Kate called back. "I'm trying to turn Luke into an Urban Duchess first!"

If nothing else, it would distract Char from the scar and the sickliness.

She looked up and raised an eyebrow at Luke. "...Huh. You're taller than I expected."
