October 1st, 2011. Kate's 18th birthday.

Again.

Also, November 1st, 2011. Bod's 18th birthday.

Interdimensional time differences were a pain in the ass, but occasionally they produced fun coincidences like a once-in-a-lifetime joint birthday, and that was why Bod had been invited over to Kansas today.

There'd been much cheer earlier from the Gregsons and their assorted posse, and there'd more family partying later, probably (in her honor, not his). But for now, the outsiders had cleared off to do other stuff, mostly to give Kate and Bod some time alone, and so alone they were, in the kitchen of Charmaine's house, with a birthday cake that was missing whatever pieces her family had already eaten. And Kate was currently adding '+ Bod' at the end of the original 'Happy Birthday Kate' in icing. "Look, I'm making you a birthday cake!"

"Maybe I have better things to focus on," Kate pointed out, as she settled to straddle him and idly reached down to trace a heart against his stomach. "Hmm?"

"Maybe you do," he agreed with a nod. "Perhaps all those quips will come to you when you've time for focus later."

"Perhaps," Kate agreed. She flattened both hands lightly against his skin and let them trail up his chest. "Perhaps I'll return to my quips once you can't focus on anything."

"I don't think you'll ever do as well as I did when I made you name state capitals," he said, still pleased about that. He thought he had a right to be.

He did. "Yeah but maybe that was just proof that sometimes you actually play dirtier than I," she replied, lightly scratching her nails down his chest, now. "And I held up pretty well against that, didn't I?"

"I think you managed to name maybe seven before you completely lost yourself," he sighed, enjoying that. "Seven out of fifty would be a failure on an exam."

"Nuh uh," she said, shaking her head as she traced a circle around each of his nipples. "There must be different standards for an exam where someone's fingering you."

"And what standards should an exam like that have according to you?" Bod wondered, laughing.

"Lower," Kate replied immediately. "And it should change based on how many fingers are being used. Because it's way more diffcult to think straight with the three than it is with one."

"Perhaps twenty out of fifty?" Bod asked, laughing at the thought she'd put into this already. "Twenty out of fifty is less than half!"

Kate snickered and scratched a heart in the middle of his chest. It stayed there as a reddening mark. "I don't know, that might still be too high. Maybe we need to account for fingering skill level, too."

"That's quite a comprehensive grading scale you're proposing," Bod replied, amused. "I don't know if most people will be patient enough to think of it."

"Most people would not make me name state capitals," Kate retorted as her hands traveled lower. "And I wouldn't do it for anyone but you."

"I'll have to find something even better to make you recite next time," Bod promised with a little grin.

"What if I'll refuse?" Not that she probably would. She shifted a little, changing where the pressure was on his hips. "I should make you name, like... What do you even have in England? Counties?"

"We have cities," Bod said but the words came just the slightest bit slower that time. "We have counties and townships too. We're not that foreign, Kate."

She dragged her nails a little more sharply over his ribs for that. "I was going for something equivalent to states, for your information," she replied. "I'm not that oblivious. And there's no point in just listing random cities."

[therewaslife]

"If we're going to be technical, England has counties," he sighed, nodding. "Those are the closest to states that I can think of even if no one thinks of them as counties so much."

"So, I should make you name counties." She rocked a little against his hips again. "I should fight evil with evil."

Like she wasn't still the more evil one out of them.

"I bet I would last longer with counties than you did with capitals," Bod said, pushing his head backwards into the pillow and exhaling.

Kate raised an eyebrow. "Confident words from the graveyard boy," she noted. "You know you're just pushing me further into wanting to test that theory, right?"

"You're welcome to to try," he murmured, breathing quietly, "but I have a distinct feeling you'll be too preoccupied with trying to tease me."

"That's distinctly possible," Kate replied with an easy little smirk. "Except there will be no trying."

She rocked a bit once more, then shifted so she could move backwards a bit.

"You're going to succeed in teasing me, then?" Bod asked, opening his eyes and giving her a wide grin. "Right now, I like the sound of that but I'm sure I might change my mind since you're that evil."

"That's usually what happens with teasing," Kate agreed, her hands going to the front of his pants. Getting those open was the objective for right now. "Especially because I'm evil."
