Inspecting the damage in the mirror, Kate poked at her nose and winced a little when that proved that yes, it still hurt. The slight swelling had gone down, though, and there was only slight bruising on either side of her nose, so it could've been a lot worse and Kate knew that. It'd fade before the interview with the Teach Abroad people next week.

But it was still enough for her to scrap any and all plans of hopping a portal to Fandom right now. Didn't feel like explaining her face to any randoms, and it was still too sore to the touch to cover up with makeup. So, she was going to be staying home, yes.

That didn't mean she wasn't going to communicate with the outside world. She'd ignored her phone for most of the previous night, too shellshocked and tired to deal with words and all that stuff. She was getting around to it now, though. Turning her phone back on, she noticed there were two texts that made her crack the faintest of smiles as she sent back a reply and shook her head a little at Bobby drinking appletinis.

And then, a message to Bod, who she hoped had just assumed she'd gotten distracted in the middle of their texting last night. She knew how he could worry.

sorry for vanishing last night, we had a situation happen. everything's fine now though.

More or less. With a sigh, she flopped down onto their bed, phone still in hand.

"Just because I'm not freaking out doesn't mean you don't have to go to the doctor," Bod told her, trying to sound stern. "You should at least get checked to make sure there's no fracture in your nose."

"Yes, dad," Kate replied, though it was about as loving as it was mocking. "I will, I promise. For you."

"Thank you," he said, sounding relieved again. "I just want you to know for sure that there wasn't the slightest bit of damage. I'm sorry you had such a rough day."

"I'm sorry too," she sighed. "But, you know, it was a pretty good day until that point? I mean, I have the money now."

"So, Japan is definitely happening then?" Bod asked, pushing his selfish feelings about that down.

"Well, I still need to have an actual inerview in person," Kate replied, though she sounded like that wans't much of a hurdle to cross. Assuming her face wouldn't put them off. "But, yeah."

"Congratulations," Bod said warmly. "You'll do well over there. I'm absolutely sure of it."

[I have to run out for a quick errand in juuuust a bit!]

"Of course," Kate replied, trying a hint of smugness on for size. "Thanks. I really hope so."

She thought it would be high time for her to find something meaningful to do, and be good at it.

"Don't forget about your family while you're over there." And he didn't want her to forget about him either but he was trying not to be selfish.

"But isn't that the whole point?" Kate asked, wryly joking. "Come on, I lived in Fandom for two years and didn't forget them. Like Japan would be any different."

"I know, I just thought I'd...say it anyway," he mumbled, sighing. "I know you're not going to forget them."

"I'm not gonna forget about you, either," she added, a little more softly. "You're gonna get annoyed with how much I'll be in touch."

"I didn't think you were going to forget me but no, I'm not going to get annoyed," he argued lightly. "Not over something like that."

"You might think differently after the 500th call that revolves around gushing over stylish Japanese chicks, or me being able to read half a newspaper article," Kate replied, lightly teasing.

"I doubt it," he said, shaking his head. "Not when I love you as much as I do. Anything you call to tell me is important information to me. That's a fact."

"Okay, I believe you," Kate decided, not that she'd been doubting him. "I love you too."

"Are you going to rest for the remainder of the day?" Bod asked and then added, "And if you're answer isn't yes, you should tell me why because unless it's to go see the physician, you need to rest."

While eyerolling wasn't an audible action, Kate was pretty sure he'd know she was doing it, anyway. He knew her well. "I'm not gonna do anything but lay here all day."

"Good," he said and almost sounded like he might have smiled. "That will stop me from doing my version of freaking out."

"Good," she replied. "So... I'll see you tomorrow, right? Want me to get written proof from the doctor that I didn't manage to get brain damage or anything?"

"That's not necessary," Bod said, shaking his head. "I just want to be sure that you're all right. That's all."

"Too bad, I totally would've gotten one," Kate said, because she would have. It suited her sense of humor. "Oh well."

"If you just rest and relax, that's all the reassurance I need after you see the doctor," Bod said, nodding. "I just want to make sure you're all right."

"I'm already all right," she couldn't help pointing out. "But fine, fine, fine. Just promise to show up tomorrow."

"I will," he promised, nodding. "I love you. Have a relaxing day."
