Kansas City, MO, Still Whatever Day It Was The Last Time

Kate was still utterly, utterly excited about having handed in her flight attendant's application. And why shouldn't she have been? It had only been like fifteen minutes! The only change was that she was on the bus on her way home now.

And as she checked her phone, she found a voicemail from Jack, and a handful of messages from Bod. The former made her raise an eyebrow because bwuh, when had she been ignoring Jack's calls, and hadn't they talked like three days ago? As for the latter, she wondered he'd managed so many texts in such short a time, but didn't even read more than the first. This was a thing that needed to be talked about so she could properly squee about it.

So, deciding to call Jack a little later, she picked Bod's number. She was pretty sure he was at work (and she was right, albeit off by two weeks reagarding the date) but whatever, she was calling him right now anyway. How busy could Luke's be?

"I have a sixth sense about these things," Kate drawled. "It's missed your weight, your scent on its sheets..."

"I'm surprised it remembers my scent," Bod mumbled, snickering. "I would have thought it remembered yours more than mine. You smell better."

"Yeah but you're a rarer pleasure," Kate argued lightly. "It doesn't have to miss me, I'm here all the time. And you smell good in a dude way."

That made Bod laugh a little louder. She had such a way with words. "I don't even know what that means. I mean, I do, but I don't."

"Means you smell like a dude," she replied, and paused to breathe his scent in. You know, just because it was a topic at hand right now. "And you smell great. Really great."

[therewaslife]

"I came from work, I probably smell like food," he said, shivering because he could feel her close enough to smell him.

"I like food," Kate replied, unaffected. "So, I like that too."

She was lovingly biased.

"You're biased," Bod laughed, shaking his head. "I think you'd say that no matter how I smelled today."

[vanillajello]

"Does it matter?" She felt that was a pretty good question. "The bed's missed you. I've missed you. We want your dudely smell to stay, food or no food."

[therewaslife]

"I wasn't planning on leaving," he said and stretched out, sighing contentedly just to make that clear. "So, your bed and you can rest easy."

[vanillajello]

"Good," Kate nodded. "We wouldn't want to have to restrain you." A beat. "No, actually, it's been established that can be fun. Restraining you in an unfun way, that's what we wouldn't wanna do."

[therewaslife]

"There are no unfun restraints needed, I promise," Bod said, nodding a few times and smiling. "I'm not going to leave, there doesn't have to be anything unfun about my visit and I smell like food."

"Good," Kate repeated. She was quiet for a moment, and nuzzled his back for a bit before a thought came to her and she picked up her head, frowning.

"Hey, if there's been more time passing in Fandom, does that mean we missed our anniversary?"

By a few days, yes.

"We did," Bod confirmed after taking a moment to do some math in his head. "It wasn't missed by much but the date has passed. I couldn't get a hold of you on the day so it fell by the wayside for me."

[vanillajello]

"Well, good," Kate snorted. "Because I would've been pissed if you'd celebrated without me. It's not an anniversary without me."

[therewaslife]

"I wouldn't have celebrated anything without you," Bod promised firmly. "Perhaps that's something we can do while I'm here?"

Kate smirked. "I am sure we can find ways to celebrate while you're here. We're usually pretty good at improvising, aren't we?"

[therewaslife]

"We are but do remember there's a tiny baby in the house now," Bod reminded her because he knew she was evil.

"So?" Kate asked. "Trust me, she's louder than we are."

... Way to pretend your idea of celebrating isn't dirty, Kate.

"I don't know if it's good or frightening that you know how loud we are," Bod said, focusing on that first.

[vanillajello]

"Actually, it's a little less about us and a little more about her," she mused. "I mean, an upset infant is loud as hell."

[therewaslife]

"I've never really had the honor," Bod replied. "Dorian was older than that and he was quiet anyway. He must have gotten that from me."

Kate was totally the loud one.

Kate was not going to claim otherwise. "He wasn't that quiet," she said. "But I do agree that whatever quiet he had in him, it was totally from you. I think all the quiet genes I could've had got saved for Moosh."

[therewaslife]

"True, he wasn't that quiet but he was fairly quiet for a young child," Bod argued, sounding fond. "I'm sure he has his moments of being loud and he got that from you along with the blonde curls."

Their kid had been adorable, all right?

"What, his hair was totally from you!" Kate exclaimed, laughing. "I may ahve contributed to the blonde, but the curls were yours. I mean, didn't you have curly hair as a kid like some pint-sized angel?"
