Party!!!, Overland Park, KS, Sunday FT

Yesterday, Charmaine and Neil had gotten married in a tiny municipal wedding ceremony that had somehow been better for everyone than Charmaine's previous attempt at a marriage. And early today, the newly wedded couple, along with their infant daughter, had taken off for Houston to go househunting. And Kate was already feeling weird that it was really just her and Marshall and Bod around, now.

So it was a good thing this was the day she'd invited people to come visit. Some booze had been acquired, and Marshall had busied himself in the kitchen making snacks, and they were all set. It was going to be weird since Kate had invited a bunch of people who'd never been to Kansas before, but she was hoping it would be a fun kind of weird.

Emma closed the small space between them by tangling her fingers in his shirt collar and tugging him in for that kiss.

"I can only stand the undisciplined minds of undergraduates for so long," she quipped against his lips. "I much prefer the brighter minds of Fandom."

"We give you a more interesting class of headache?" Jack teased back at her, and let his hands sneak about to clasp at the small of her back. "I have missed you, you know."

"Much more interesting," she promised, eyes dancing with mischief. "How much did you miss me, Mr. Priest?"

...a quickie in the bathroom was probably rude. Sigh.

Jack sighed lightly. "Probably just about enough to agree to whatever you're about to suggest."

A quickie was rude, and at least two people at the party would know about it instantly. That didn't make it seem like a bad idea.

At least two people would know instantly - not that Eric would care - and the rest probably knew them well enough to guess.

"Later?" she asked regretfully, not yet letting go of his shirt. "We ought to dance attendance on our hostess, first."

Jack swallowed, willing the aroused red in his cheeks to recede. When he spoke again, his tone was more or less normal.

"We should," Jack agreed. "And get to know her brother, too. It was nice of her to invite so many of us to her quiet suburb."

"Clearly, she wants her nice corner of suburbia shaken up," Emma quipped. "We should all pile in the car later and TP the neighbours."

Jack got a blank look. "Are you going to think less of me if I admit I have absolutely no idea what that is, unless it's erecting small tents?"

"Think less, no. Tease you for being a Victorian, perhaps," she mused. "If you go out and 'TP,' it means you take a roll of toilet paper and toss it all over trees, bushes, houses... a typical teenage prank."

Jack squinted, trying to picture it. "I don't get the point, but I suppose that's Victorian as well."

"It's usually done as an initiation, if you're doing it to another peer, or as harassment if it's an adult," Emma explained. "No one really expects our age group to make sense."

"And somehow I made it to my twenties without hearing of it, so I suppose I'm far too old and wise now," Jack bantered. "I'm terribly put out, of course."

He so wasn't.

"What, old?" Emma scoffed. "You realize, that's practically a challenge for me to get you to do something utterly irresponsible before you go back to being an adult?"

"Game on," Jack told her. "Though if you get me arrested, you're paying for bail."

"Since when do I pay for bail?" Emma scoffed. "Silly Jack, that's what powers are for."

Jack squinted at her. "And now I know why your criminal record isn't a mile long," he cheerfully slandered. "You'd do the same for me? You're too sweet."
