Date nights didn't happen too often these days. And Kate was pretty fine with that, since she got to live with her lovable boyfriend and their puppy baby, and staying in was pretty easy for her lazy ass.

But sometimes date inspiration struck, and her lazy ass put on a dress to head out. Like tonight. She'd gotten dressed up and dragged Bod out with her to just walk around and find a place to have a snack or a meal in.

A place like Blue Koi, which she was now excitedly pointing at, even as she swung Bod's hand with her other one. "Oooh! They're supposed to have really good bubble tea here!"

Kate was about to respond, but the waiter came over just then. She gave him their order, and he went on his way again.

"As I was about to say, sometimes I like eating in peace. Sometimes."

Bod nodded. "I know you do. I do as well. But, he's young and I'm sure he'll mature as he gets older and a little less rambunctious."

"I don't know about that... I haven't."

Yes she had. She'd matured a lot.

"You don't think you've matured?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "Really?"

"I don't know, have I?" she asked, tilting her head. "I mean, I still feel like the same aimless spaz I've always felt like, most of the time."

"You have a stable job," he said, starting to tick the various reasons off on his fingers. "You and I are living together, we pay our bills, we have a puppy which is a huge responsibility, we are self sustaining and we do all these without too much trouble."

[vanillajello]

"Yeah, and I have authority over the passengers at work, too," Kate allowed, then shrugged a shoulder. "But, sometimes, I get this feeling like, what the fuck? How are these people buying what I'm telling them about air travel safety?"

It was like they didn't know about all the fuck-ups she'd gone through in her ife! Fancy that.

"Like, I feel like the world's most successful con artist. I'm conning the world into believing I'm a grown up."

"That's ridiculous," Bod said, shaking his head. "I mean, I understand the sentiment but you're mature, Kate. I've known you for quite awhile. I've seen the changes."

"No, I've just been conning you too," Kate joked, smiling a bit at him. "No, I know. It just doesn't feel like it from this side of things, sometimes."

"You're getting old, Kate," Bod joked, learning forward. "Accept it, my dear."

Kate laughed.

"Oh my God, you take that back right now!" she protested anyway. "I'm not getting old."

Instead of taking it back, Bod blew her a kiss.

"I love you."

"I know, but you're gonna give me a complex." No he wasn't. "I only have like two weeks left of being a teenager, you know!"

"And I will be right behind you," he reminded her. "You're aging gracefully, Kate."

[vanillajello]

Kate waved a hand dramatically. "Oh what do you know, you're basically a toddler."

[therewaslife]

"So, you're sleeping with a toddler?" Bod nodded. "That's disturbing."

That was, of course, when the waiter came back with their order.

So all Kate said was, "Ha ha."

Bod shrugged and just smiled at her since there was someone else around.

Kate waited patiently while the waiter placed their food and drinks in front of them.

And then she forgot what they'd been talking about because she was too busy cooing "Bubble teeeea!" at her glass.

Bod laughed and reached for his glass to take a few sips. It was surprisingly good.

"Well, don't just talk to it," he teased. "Enjoy it."

To be fair, the straw was about halfway to her mouth by the time he was halfway through saying that. Because tea.

"It's good, right? Also the bubble things are weird and chewy."

"It's good," he agreed, reaching for some of the food now. "Different but good. I like it."

Kate... was going to take a moment to remember about her Awesome Sauce. She got obsessive sometimes.

"So glad we came."

[therewaslife]

"So am I," he told her, smiling softly. "So am I."

Date nights were amazing.

Kate just beamed at him for a moment before finally getting started on her food.

Yeah, date nights were the best.
