Outside Blue Koi Restaurant, Kansas City, MO, Monday Evening

Date nights didn't happen too often these days. And Kate was pretty fine with that, since she got to live with her lovable boyfriend and their puppy baby, and staying in was pretty easy for her lazy ass.

But sometimes date inspiration struck, and her lazy ass put on a dress to head out. Like tonight. She'd gotten dressed up and dragged Bod out with her to just walk around and find a place to have a snack or a meal in.

A place like Blue Koi, which she was now excitedly pointing at, even as she swung Bod's hand with her other one. "Oooh! They're supposed to have really good bubble tea here!"

"What's bubble tea?" Bod asked, looking up at the sign. "I mean, I know what tea is obviously but bubble tea?"

"Oh, it's the greatest thing!" Kate enthused. (Shut up, it was okay to be excited. She liked dates.) "It's this, like, tea drink with milk and fruit and stuff, and these little tapioca balls that hang out at the bottom of the glass? And you drink it with an extra wide straw, and I had one at one of the airports we fly to, one time, and it was so good."

Bod tried to follow that before saying, "It sounds rather...busy. There are a lot of things going on with that drink."

"Well, it's apparently usually either milk tea or fruit-flavored, but that place I visited before did the unholy Frankenstein thing where they had both," Kate replied, shrugging. "Really, you just gotta pick a flavor that sounds good to you."

"And what kinds of flavors do they have?" he asked, keeping a hold on her hand but stepping closer to the restaurant to peer inside.

[vanillajello]

"Well, that place had mostly stuff like different fruit and berries," she replied, swinging their hands lightly. "But also like, almond and mocha and stuff. And sweet green bean which just sounds weird to me."

Bod made a face. "That sounds...unappetizing. But, did you want to go inside and have dinner?"

[vanillajello]

"Well, I wanna go inside and see what else they have on the menu, at least." And yes, she was already tugging him towards the door now. "Decisions on dinner will be based on that."

"You're bossy," he said but he wasn't at all surprised. He followed behind her, smiling as he did.

"And you have known this for a thousand years."

Well, three. Close enough.

"This is true," he agreed with a nod. "But I still like to let you know that I notice every once in awhile."

[vanillajello]

"Well, it'd be weird if you stopped noticing altogether," Kate mused, as waiter came over to seat them. "I mean, everyone knows you're a little whipped, but still."

[therewaslife]

"And now our waiter knows as well," Bod told her, laughing. "And probably some other people in the restaurant."

Kate snickered. "I wasn't that loud." Loud enough for the waiter, who was hiding a smile while he showed them the table. But not anyone else! "Besides, it's not like you can argue."

"I wasn't going to argue," he said, holding a chair out for Kate before sitting down. "But, I hope no one tries to offer me advice to overcome being whipped."

"They can see me, can't they?" Kate quipped as she took her seat, smiling at him. "How could they ever think you'd want to be anything but whipped?"

"They can see but they don't know you," he pointed out, taking his own seat now. "And there are a lot of nosy people that do enjoy offering unsolicited advice."

The waiter handed them their menus before leaving for the moment again.

"What, like Puck used to?"

"Yes, like Puck used to but he did have the best of intentions," Bod said, opening the menu up.

"Yeah, he just wanted to make sure you got in my pants," Kate snorted as she opened her own menu. "... They have actual Awesome Sauce here."

"What's Awesome Sauce?" Bod asked, looking through the menu to find that.

[vanillajello]

"I don't even know," Kate said, tapping a fingernail against the list of starters. "'Crispy Tofu With Spicy Awesome Sauce,'" she read. "And then it just says 'What can we say, it's awesome'. Hmm."

"Sounds like something that's right up your alley," Bod remarked, snickering. "You should try it. Everyone should try Awesome Sauce."

"I wasn't even going to get a starter, but I think you're right," she replied, nodding solemnly. "I mean, how could I possibly pass that up? I can't."

"You can't!" Bod agreed. "And if you don't finish dinner, I'm sure they have a way for us to take it home to save for later. You can take it to work with you."
