Outside Blue Koi Restaurant, Kansas City, MO, Monday Evening

Date nights didn't happen too often these days. And Kate was pretty fine with that, since she got to live with her lovable boyfriend and their puppy baby, and staying in was pretty easy for her lazy ass.

But sometimes date inspiration struck, and her lazy ass put on a dress to head out. Like tonight. She'd gotten dressed up and dragged Bod out with her to just walk around and find a place to have a snack or a meal in.

A place like Blue Koi, which she was now excitedly pointing at, even as she swung Bod's hand with her other one. "Oooh! They're supposed to have really good bubble tea here!"

"I don't even know," Kate said, tapping a fingernail against the list of starters. "'Crispy Tofu With Spicy Awesome Sauce,'" she read. "And then it just says 'What can we say, it's awesome'. Hmm."

"Sounds like something that's right up your alley," Bod remarked, snickering. "You should try it. Everyone should try Awesome Sauce."

"I wasn't even going to get a starter, but I think you're right," she replied, nodding solemnly. "I mean, how could I possibly pass that up? I can't."

"You can't!" Bod agreed. "And if you don't finish dinner, I'm sure they have a way for us to take it home to save for later. You can take it to work with you."

"Oh, nothing awesome is getting taken to work with me." She shook her head. "Work is a minefield of unexpected unawesome things and I don't want it to get tainted."

"Well, it can be for our dinner tomorrow, then," Bod said, looking at the choices of bubble tea. "Passion fruit bubble tea? That actually sound quite good."

"Right?" Kate asked as she took a look at the choices herself. "Oooh, green apple! No, coconut –– no, sweet and sour plum!"

She was great at choosing things.

"Why don't get you two?" Bod suggested, chuckling. "Or maybe they have a way that you can sample the different flavors."

"Maaaaybe I'll get one to drink here, and one to take home with me?" Kate replied, tilting her head at the menu. "And then save the rest for other times."

"Maybe you should," Bod agreed with a nod. "I doubt they'll have any sort of issue with us paying for more than one."

"That'd be really bad for business," Kate agreed with a snicker. "Okay, so I'm having the tofu thing with the Awesome Sauce, and bubble tea."

"And I think I'll have this thing called China Moon since it says I have to try it with some bubble tea as well," Bod decided.

"And it sounds pretty," Kate concluded, always keeping the important things in mind. She looked up, tried to catch their waiter's attention. "I'm already glad we decided to go out tonight."

"Was it needed?" Bod asked, leaning back.

[vanillajello]

"I'd say so," Kate replied, having waved the waiter over. Wrinkling her nose. "Monday night, you know? I've never been great at Mondays."

She was much more of a lazy weekend person.

"I know you haven't," he said, smiling. "And we haven't done this in awhile. Most of our dates tend to be staying indoors with each other."

[vanillajello]

"Which is totally cool too," she replied. Because it was. See above re: lazy ass. "And Lord knows we were never huge on dates but it's still fun. Also? Less chance of getting trampled by a Corgi while having dinner."

"You say that like you don't love Seamus crawling all over you," he joked, laughing.

Kate was about to respond, but the waiter came over just then. She gave him their order, and he went on his way again.

"As I was about to say, sometimes I like eating in peace. Sometimes."

Bod nodded. "I know you do. I do as well. But, he's young and I'm sure he'll mature as he gets older and a little less rambunctious."

"I don't know about that... I haven't."

Yes she had. She'd matured a lot.

"You don't think you've matured?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "Really?"

"I don't know, have I?" she asked, tilting her head. "I mean, I still feel like the same aimless spaz I've always felt like, most of the time."

[therewaslife]

"You have a stable job," he said, starting to tick the various reasons off on his fingers. "You and I are living together, we pay our bills, we have a puppy which is a huge responsibility, we are self sustaining and we do all these without too much trouble."

[vanillajello]

"Yeah, and I have authority over the passengers at work, too," Kate allowed, then shrugged a shoulder. "But, sometimes, I get this feeling like, what the fuck? How are these people buying what I'm telling them about air travel safety?"

It was like they didn't know about all the fuck-ups she'd gone through in her ife! Fancy that.

"Like, I feel like the world's most successful con artist. I'm conning the world into believing I'm a grown up."
