Jelly Bean B2, Early Monday Morning

There was no one holding Kate as she woke up on Monday morning. She'd expected it, of course, but it was still not a nice feeling to wake up and find herself alone.

Especially when it was fairly permanent kind of alone.

She reached behind her, fingers scraping against the mattress until they found the necklace and closed around it. She pushed herself up enough to get it around her neck more easily, then slumped back down to the same position she'd gone to sleep in. Still taking up only half of her narrow bed for no real reason at all.

As if he was going to come back if she left him some room. It was idiotic and sad and made no sense, but it was early in the morning and she thought it was allowed.

"I wouldn't expect you to be stealthy if I was awake," he agreed with kiss on her cheek. "You balance out me being quiet, I think."

"I balance you out in a lot of ways, probably," she replied, resisting the urge to turn her head so she could see him. Things were comfortable as they were. "Being loud is just one of them."

"In what other ways do you balance me out?" Bod wondered, moving back to nuzzling and kissing her neck. "Being loud is one, yes."

"Well, I have way more experience in dealing with living people," Kate replied. "And the whole high school thing, and teenage socializing. So there's that."

"There's that," he said, nodding and settling down again, lips against the back of one of her shoulders. "I'm learning how to deal with the living, though. Considering I am alive, it seems like something to focus on, I think."

"Seems logical," she agreed, lightly teasing. "And I don't care if you don't always get it right."

"You sound like you're implying I get it wrong," he said, mock surprising his voice. "I don't ever get it wrong."

Yes, he did.

"Yes you do," she replied, countering his mock surprise with some genuine amusement. "You do."

"When?" he asked, still feigning surprise. "I can't recall ever getting it wrong. I think you're misremembering, Kate."

[vanillajello]

"My memory is perfect," she told him. "You don't want me to start listing examples."

[therewaslife]

"I think I do because I think your memory is faulty in this regard," he said, trying not to laugh. "I don't get it wrong. I'm awesome."

That was her word (even if he knew she didn't have a claim on it) but he was trying to be a little silly and to take her mind off some of the more melancholy things that had happened.

And she knew that was what he was doing. But it was working all the same, and she almost laughed.

"Awesome? You?" she asked, trying to sound like she could hardly even understand such idiocy. "Have you hit your head recently?"

"I haven't," he said, shaking his head. "I am awesome. There's little doubt in my mind and while you can outwardly deny it, I know you feel the same. I'm awesome and my head has no indentations in it."

"You're not awesome," she insisted. "And your brain is probably all scrambled."

[therewaslife]

"My brain is fine," he retorted, shaking his head and leaning over her shoulder to kiss the line of her jaw. "I am awesome. I've got awesome running all throughout me."

"No you don't," she replied. "How could it have gotten there? I'm the only awesome person in this bed right now."

[therewaslife]

"What does that make me if I'm not awesome?" he asked, shaking his head. "I doubt you can answer that question because the answer is amazingly awesome."

"All talk," she decided quickly. "You're all talk and no awesome. Amazingly awesome, my ass."

"And you're in denial," he declared, laughing. "I think you need a pair of eyeglasses. Then, you'd be able to recognize my awesome ways."

"I don't need glasses," she said, shaking her head. "I think you should prove your awesome ways instead."

[therewaslife]

"Why should I have to prove that?" he wondered. "I know it's true and it's not my fault you're not able to recognize what's right in front of you."

[vanillajello]

"I totally recognize what's in front of me," she retorted. "I can see all my awesome stuff from here."

Bod sighed and shook his head, sounding incredibly put upon. "You're going to make me sad, Kate. Maybe someone else will recognize my awesome and be nice to me."

"Well I'm sorry, but you're just expecting me to buy that without you having to make any sort of effort," she told him, very seriously except not. "So I don't think you'll have much luck with anyone else, either."

"Effort? I make efforts everyday," he chided, shaking his head. "I'm from a graveyard. I grew up with ghosts. I think that would automatically give me some awesome."
