Kate was nervous. And she thought she had every damn right to be. This was actually the first time ever she'd brought a boyfriend home to be introduced to her parents. (As always, Leto didn't count. They hadn't even kissed before he came home with her.) And that was just... Weird. It felt weird.

And anyway, in her mind, they were here more to get a break from Fandom. Not to make official introductions. But it was still a little terrifying, even if she wasn't really showing it.

They'd taken a bus from the airport and walked the rest of the way since it wasn't far from the bus stop, and Kate thought she could use the extra time to remind Bod of what he wasn't supposed to talk about. And to prepare herself for everything.

The first thing she noticed after they got to her house was that her dad's pick-up truck wasn't parked outside. Neither was The Green Hornet, her mom's car. But she was too nervous to think about what that might mean.

"So. That's my house," she said, nodding at the house and flashing a smile at Bod as she stopped to stand by the green mailbox, which had a few painted flowers on it and said 'The Gregsons' in Tara's handwriting. "Welcome to Oak Avenue."

Tara's laugh sounded genuine too, when they left her alone in the kitchen.

"That makes you sound gay," Kate teased lightly as she reached to pick her bag up from the floor. "Or creepy. Good thing you're adorable."

"It does not," he argued, picking up his own bag and shouldering it. "It makes me sound like was kidding. I'm not gay or creepy though I won't argue with adorable this weekend."

Adorable was a good word and he'd take those. "I could have said I'd hide under a bed. Would that have been better?"

"Why yes, that would have been an absolutely heterosexual thing to say," she snickered as she tugged him towards the stairs. "And not creepy in the slightest."

"At least I didn't have a near panic attack," he replied and barely resisted the urge to stick his tongue out at her. All right no, he gave into that urge since she was questioning his sexuality and calling him names. He could just roll with the immaturity.

It almost made him feel a little less nervous.

And Kate could use some of that feeling too. So, immaturity was the way to go, snickering while they climbed the stairs.

"At least I didn't come off as a lesbian."

Yes, she did stick her tongue out at him after saying that.

"I did not come off as a lesbian," he said (and thankfully kept his voice low) and made a face at her back. "At least I don't smell like a soft drink mixed with flowers."

He knew her scent pretty well by now, yes. "So there."

"No, you came off as a gay guy." No he hadn't, but silly arguing was needed. "And what's wrong with smelling like Coke and flowers?"

"I did not come off as a gay guy," he protested, swinging his bag lightly so he could hit the backs of her thighs with it.

"And there's nothing wrong with it save for the fact that you only smelled like flowers until you took an additional shower earlier."

They made it upstairs now, and she led him on towards her room, trying to avoid being hit with his bag.

"It's not like I did it on purpose," she pointed out, mock indignant, "you homo."

"Maybe it's because you're such a klutz. I have independent confirmation of that," he replied, shouldering his bag but reaching out to tug the ends of her hair instead.

And he wasn't completely selling out her brother. He hadn't said who the independent confirmation was from.

"We should watch out that you don't trip and fall into something messy. Be careful, Kate."

"Someone's been lying to you," Kate replied immediately. "I am not a fucking klutz. Come on."

But it was irrelevant now that they were at her door (it was easy to tell by the wooden sign on it that said 'Kate') and she pushed it open, stepping in. "So. Here we are."

Like she'd told him sometime long ago, it was really a lot like her side of the room at the dorms, only bigger. There was a lot of stuff in there, a lot of drawings and paintings and flyers on the walls, a lot of random junk from toy ponies to old school books on the shelves that lined one of the walls.

"Here we are," he repeated, stepping in behind her and looking around. "Hullo, Kate's room. You're quite full of interesting odds and ends."

After talking with her mother, he'd been expecting the drawings and paintings and he found his eyes drawn to those first. From there, they took in the other things and he smiled as he did.

"I like your room, Kate," he said, turning towards her. "It's very you. It's vibrant."

"Thank you." Well, she couldn't help smiling at that as she dropped her bag on the floor again. "It's... kinda looked almost exactly the same since I can't even remember when."

Bod followed suit, letting his bag settle near his feet while he looked around a little more.

"It seems like it'd be a good place to spend time. It's not sparse so you have things to do but it's not so overly filled that you can't find time to just relax. It's relaxing, that's a good word."

Kate gave him a sideways look and a fond smirk. "You're so analytical. It's a room."

And she liked hearing him talk about it more than she'd admit.

"It's a room when there's nothing in it," he argued, shaking his head and running his fingers over the spines of some of her books. "Right now, it's something more personal than just a room. Your room doesn't look the same as my room and it probably doesn't look like your brother's room either. It's personalized. It's more than a room."

"It's a room," she repeated, wandering over to the window to peer out, not really for any particular reason. Maybe she just didn't quite know what to do with herself. It felt weird that he was here with everything she'd left behind.

Weird, but good.

"A room with my crap in it."

Bod smiled at her stubborn insistence and wandered up to stand behind her so he could be close to her and see out the window.

"It's a good room with good things and a good person in it," he corrected quietly. "Argue with me if you must but you're not going to convince me otherwise."

Still looking out the window, Kate reached back for his hand, and maybe to tug him closer. Sure they were in front of a window, but it was easier to see out than it was to see in.

"Awesome person," was her contribution to the topic at hand.

"Awesome person, of course," he said, stepping up a little closer and sliding his arm around her waist from behind since that's about the only spot it could go.

"Are you all right?" he asked quietly near her ear. "Can I do anything?"

Kate laughed quietly, leaning back against him a little as she covered that arm of his with hers. "I'm fine. You don't have to do anything."

"Good," he said, nodding and kissing the top of her shoulder. He did realize that he had his hands on her in her parents house but at least this was innocent touching.

"I like your mum and your brother," he told her quietly, keeping his eyes on the street outside your window. "You look like your mum."

"Do I?" she asked, keeping her voice as low as his, turning her head some to glance at him. "I don't think I do."

But of course, she knew things like that were more easy to spot from the outside.

"I think you do. There's a strong resemblance between you, your brother and your mum," he shared while smiling at her from the close proximity.

"But you do," he said again. "I could see it as soon as your mum walked into the kitchen."

"I don't think I look like Moosh, either," she said, but smiled at him anyway. "He looks like dad, though. Kinda."
