Room 324, Late Wednesday Afternoon

This whole packing thing was starting to get really familiar. It was getting easier and easier to gather up clothes and other necessities. Kate had already lost count of the times she'd gone home in the last few months, when earlier she could easily go months and months without going back.

It may have seemed like a random change, but it really wasn't. The truth was that there was less to run away from at home right now. The Gregson family circus was currently not staging any shows of mental illness and embarrassment. It was actually easy to go home.

And this time, she'd found a ridiculously cheap portal connection to Kansas City for later in the evening, so going was even easier. Even if she'd just seen Zack's email and been reminded that Hannibal had said he was coming around for Ino's birthday, which probably meant she'd miss seeing him. But, she'd been intending to storm his new New York dwelling as soon as possible, anyway. She'd make up for missing his visit then. Couldn't let a deal like that Portalocity ticket just pass her by.

Of course, earlier in the week she'd also found out that Lynda P. Frazier's check had bounced. But that had nothing to do with her decision to travel. Nothing at all. None.

"I did call you dumb and no, it wouldn't terrify me." Well, depending on what it was, it probably wouldn't terrify him but he didn't think she'd give him a dead frog or something similar. "Are you going to give me something?"

"Mm, I think so."

And sadly, she had to pull away some to do it. She reached behind her neck, for the lock of her necklace.

It was the only thing she could come up with, right now.

"Your necklace?" Bod said, surprised she'd want to give that to him. "Are you sure?"

He knew the value of that necklace to her.

"I'm just going home," Kate replied, as she got the lock open. "Not like I need it there."

Of course, she'd be hard pressed to admit to ever needing it in the first place.

"My question still stands." She wasn't going to be able to wave off letting him hold onto her necklace that easily. "I know how much you care about your necklace."

"It's just a necklace," she said, or lied, leaning in to steal a quick kiss before reaching to fix the necklace around his neck instead. Not that she was intending to force him to actually wear it, except for right now. Unless he wanted to.

"And you know how much I care about you."

He wasn't going to stop her from putting it on him. He'd never worn a necklace before so the sensation was a little new. The metal was still warm from her skin and he bowed his head forward to make it easier to put it on him.

"I'll hold onto it for you," he promised quietly, nodding. "I can do that for you, of course."

"Good," she replied, pressing her hand against the top of his chest so that the necklace got pressed between her palm and him. "And now you'll have something of mine."

"Mmm, I feel like you've claimed me again," he teased, covering her hand with his and smiling at her. "I wear your necklace, I've been claimed by you."

"Maybe you have been," she teased back, smiling as well. "Maybe that was my grand plan."

"I could take your necklace off and break that claim," he pointed out even if he had no intention of doing that. "What then?"

[vanillajello]

"Why would you ever want to do that?" she countered. "Don't you like being claimed by me?"

"It's not so bad, I suppose," he said, putting some fake resignation in his voice just because he could. "I think I would like cookies more."

No, he would not.

"I think I'm infinitely better than cookies," she replied, shaking her head. "And I think you think that too."

"I can eat cookies." Yes, he knew he'd left that one open. He didn't care.

Oh, he got a smirk for that. "Slang says you can eat me too."

[therewaslife]

"I haven't though." Obviously, Bod did not know the slang of which she was speaking. "I've eaten cookies."

"But you have," Kate replied, snickering. "And you like it."

[therewaslife]

"I have?" Yes, that slang was completely escaping him probably because his brain wasn't built for sexual slang. "When?"

Kate really shouldn't be surprised, should she? And yet.

She was just not used to dealing with people whose brains seemed to categorically refuse to go dirty without a lot pushing. Which she was happy to do.

"Oral sex, Bod."

Okay, so maybe that was more of a shove.

A nice, firm shove, even. Bod didn't say anything immediately because he was trying to work that slang out in his head.

"That...doesn't makes a lot of sense," he finally said while his cheeks blazed and his voice stuttered.

"Yeah, well, it's still a saying," Kate replied, oh so amused. "Not my fault."

"Maybe cookies taste better," Bod said, throwing up a weak offensive to try and combat her amusement there.

"Careful," she admonished lightly, "or you'll end up offending me."

[therewaslife]

"I'm surprised you think I'm telling you the truth," he replied, tilting his head at her. "Do you really think I'd say that about you?"
