Room 324, Late Wednesday Afternoon

This whole packing thing was starting to get really familiar. It was getting easier and easier to gather up clothes and other necessities. Kate had already lost count of the times she'd gone home in the last few months, when earlier she could easily go months and months without going back.

It may have seemed like a random change, but it really wasn't. The truth was that there was less to run away from at home right now. The Gregson family circus was currently not staging any shows of mental illness and embarrassment. It was actually easy to go home.

And this time, she'd found a ridiculously cheap portal connection to Kansas City for later in the evening, so going was even easier. Even if she'd just seen Zack's email and been reminded that Hannibal had said he was coming around for Ino's birthday, which probably meant she'd miss seeing him. But, she'd been intending to storm his new New York dwelling as soon as possible, anyway. She'd make up for missing his visit then. Couldn't let a deal like that Portalocity ticket just pass her by.

Of course, earlier in the week she'd also found out that Lynda P. Frazier's check had bounced. But that had nothing to do with her decision to travel. Nothing at all. None.

After spending a few hours in town, Bod found his way upstairs and detoured to Kate's room before heading up to his own. The packing he hadn't expected so he just leaned against the door and watched, bag of pastries still in hand.

Some music was playing (though on low volume, for once), and Kate was humming along to it as she packed. Right now, she was picking out some clean shirts and folding them to stuff them in her backpack. And that required concentration.

He'd have to wait or do something if he wanted to get noticed.

He was going to wait. Even if she was in a rush, he wasn't since his day was completely class free. He'd just lean against the frame of the door and eat the rest of the muffin in his bag while he watched her fold clothes.

Kate wasn't in much of a rush, either, just wanting to get her packing done so she could concentrate on other stuff before she had to go. Didn't realy have anything better to do, either.

She reached under the blankets on her bed next, pulling out the shirt she'd stolen from him, then got to folding that too.

Bod recognized that shirt and couldn't help smiling when it became evident that it was going with her to wherever she was going. He'd have to wear more shirts so she could steal them from in the future.

That made sense somewhere in his head.

At least she'd given the first one she'd stolen back to him, if only in exchange for another. Slowly, she was probably going to work her way through all his shirts.

The shirt in question went into the bag to join the others, and Kate turned to go snag some stuff from her desk next. But then, of course, she finally saw him.

"Oh." She smiled at him. "Hi."

"Hullo," he said, still leaning and still watching. "Did I interrupt your packing?"

"Not really," she said, moving to her desk and picking up a notebook to take back to her bag. "I'm almost done."

"Are you going to Kansas?" Bod asked, assuming so but she could be surprising when she wanted to be.

"Yeah," she confirmed, dropping the notebook in her bag before wandering closer to him. "Portalocity had crazy cheap tickets."

"For all you tell me Kansas is boring, I'm beginning to think you like boring," he teased as she came closer to him.

"Maybe it's good for the soul," she suggested, reaching for him. Yes, he had a bag in his hand. No, she didn't care. "In small doses."

"You're going for a lengthy visit," he said, straightening up to make her reaching for him a little easier. He couldn't do anything with the bag so he just tried to keep it out of the way somewhat. "Is everything all right there?"

Kate tugged him a little further into the room before leaning in to get her arms around his neck.

"Actually, I haven't decided when I'm gonna be back," she said. "Though it'll probably be Sunday. But, everything's completely coolio. As far as I know."

"I hope everything stays that way, then," he said, sliding one of his arms (the one without the bag) around her waist after she'd pulled him inside. "I would offer you help to pack but...I don't think you want me to try that."

"No, I really don't think that sounds like a good idea," she replied, snickering as she happily leaned into him more. "No offence. And besides, I'm almost done anyway."

"I can make things match." He was just used to matching pants and a shirt. She was all...elaborate. "I can do that!"

"I doubt you have any concept of a good outfit, sorry," Kate said and shook her head. "And do you have even any idea what other stuff is essential for me? It's not all just clothes that have to be packed, you know."

"Things like makeup?" Bod guessed. "Toiletries?"

Kate nodded. "Exactly. And would you dare to go near any of those?"

[therewaslife]

"Why not?" Bod shrugged, not seeing the harm. "I don't mind those things."

"But would you know what stuff to pack?" she wondered. "Girls are strange creatures."

[therewaslife]

"Obviously, I wouldn't but that wouldn't stop me from trying," Bod said, shrugging. "It can't be that difficult to pack for a girl."

Kate snorted. "Spoken like someone who's never had to pack for one." Okay, maybe it wasn't all that hard, but occasionally she liked to hold up some myths. "I'm still not letting you."

"I didn't ask for you to let me," he pointed out, shaking his head. "I just offered to help and then said it couldn't be that hard. You're the one trying to make it sound like climbing a proverbial mountain."
