Room 324, Late Wednesday Afternoon

This whole packing thing was starting to get really familiar. It was getting easier and easier to gather up clothes and other necessities. Kate had already lost count of the times she'd gone home in the last few months, when earlier she could easily go months and months without going back.

It may have seemed like a random change, but it really wasn't. The truth was that there was less to run away from at home right now. The Gregson family circus was currently not staging any shows of mental illness and embarrassment. It was actually easy to go home.

And this time, she'd found a ridiculously cheap portal connection to Kansas City for later in the evening, so going was even easier. Even if she'd just seen Zack's email and been reminded that Hannibal had said he was coming around for Ino's birthday, which probably meant she'd miss seeing him. But, she'd been intending to storm his new New York dwelling as soon as possible, anyway. She'd make up for missing his visit then. Couldn't let a deal like that Portalocity ticket just pass her by.

Of course, earlier in the week she'd also found out that Lynda P. Frazier's check had bounced. But that had nothing to do with her decision to travel. Nothing at all. None.

"You can hang out and be adorable at me until I have to go?"

Easiest suggestion ever.

"I can do both of those," he decided, nodding. "I can even offer you some of the sweets I have left, if you'd like. There's a donut and a muffin in there, if you'd like."

"Mm, I think I would." That, of course, would require letting go of him. So she'd get to that in a moment, not quite yet. "Haven't even had anything sugary yet today."

"Have you been packing since you got home?" Bod wondered, glancing at her bag. "You make it such a lengthy, thought filled process."

"I haven't been here all that long yet," Kate pointed out, glancing at the bag herself. "And I think I totally do most of it on autopilot by now."

Except the part where she chose the clothes. Obviously.

"How long do you have until you leave?" asked Bod, switching the bag from one hand to the other so he could keep an arm around her. "Time to relax for a bit?"

"Like..." Kate glanced at the clock on the wall. "An hour and twenty minutes?" She looked at him again and nodded. "So yeah, I'd say there's time."

"If you've nearly finished packing, there's plenty of time," he agreed, nodding and leaning down to kiss her forehead. "I think the question becomes are you planning on relaxing, then?"

"Why wouldn't I plan on relaxing?" she wondered, smiling because of that little kiss. "Of course I do."

"I don't know, maybe you had something energetic planned for your last little bit of time here," said Bod, shrugging. "Maybe you were going to partake in some strenuous exercise to wake up."

Yeah, that was just going to get him an amused, incredulous look.

"Have we met?"

"I know you exercise sometimes." Perhaps his definition of the word was different than hers. "You dance. You do other things. Perhaps you wanted to stay awake so you wouldn't fall asleep and miss your departure time."

"You're just giving me way too much credit," Kate replied, shaking her head. "And I wasn't worried about falling asleep. So, I'll have some relaxing, please and thank you."

"What sort of relaxation are you planning?" wondered Bod curiously. "Are you going to sprawl yourself on your bed while I fan you?"

Kate laughed. "Nah," she said. "We don't have any grapes. 'Cause I think you should also be feeding me grapes in that scenario."

"Pieces of muffin won't work as well?" He did have that bag of baked goods even if the thought of feeding her like that made him laugh.

"That would just get crumbs everywhere," Kate decided. "No, I don't think so. Too messy."

[therewaslife]

"You are a picky, picky American," he teased, shaking his head. "Maybe I should just take my baked goods and share them with my fish instead of you."

"Fine, if you want to be a snobby Brit," she retorted. "I'm sure your fish will enjoy them."

Not that she was letting go of him.

"It's not snobby, it's generosity and sharing," he replied, shaking his head. "And that has nothing to do with me being an Englishman."

"Englishboy," she drawled. "And your judging of me is very snobby. You're a snob, Bod. A snobby snob."

[therewaslife]

"I am not boy," he said, shaking his head. "I could be eighteen for all we both know. And I'm not judging you when the facts are clear, Kate. You're an assuming asummer."

"Oh what do you know, you snobby boy?" Kate asked, raising her eyebrows. "I don't think you can even see facts straight from all your snobbery."

"You've got all your facts wrong, you unintelligent girl," Bod said, shaking his head oh so sadly. "I've no idea why I associate with you when you make up lies and rumors about me? Obviously, I should be spending time elsewhere."

"Obviously," Kate nodded solemnly. "I mean, your constant judging is really getting on my nerves. And I'm getting kinda tired of seeing you and your pasty face all the time." A beat. "Also, your accent gives me headaches."
