Room 324, Friday Afternoon

Kate was just getting around to emailing photos of Fandom to her brother when her phone buzzed, signaling the arrival of a message.

haven’t seen you at school, where r u?

Kate blinked a few times after she read the message. Oh-kay. Not entirely unexpected, but still pretty surprising. She wasn’t going to reply to it, though. He didn’t deserve it. She couldn’t really bring herself to delete the message right away, but went back to picking sendable pictures on the computer.

About five minutes later the phone buzzed again.

...He was making it really hard not to reply. Kate sat on her bed, looking at her phone.

"I'm good at chess. I can ride a sandworm. I speak several dead languages and a few that doesn't exist yet. Apart from my father I'm the only man fully trained as a Bene Gesserit. I can be a good lover. I can fly 'thopters very well, although Irulan might think I overestimate my abilities." He grinned back.

Kate laughed and nodded approvingly. "Now you're talking. I think it's safe to say you've just reached a higher level of expectations on the KG scale."

Laughing too, Leto said: "So, anything in particular that catches your interest?"

Kate raised an eyebrow. "The languages, of course." Somehow she managed to sound sweet and sarcastic simultaneously.

"I didn't know you took an interest in languages," he smirked, "But I'm sure I can satisfy your curiosity."

And he spoke a phrase in a Fremen dialect which probably sounds similar to Arabic.

"Fascinating," she noted, attempting to look like she meant it. It would have helped if the corners of her mouth hadn't twitched.

Also, Leto wasn't an easy person to lie to. "Kate, it would help if you were telling the truth."

"It would also help if, in addition to dead languages, you were also fluent in sarcasm."

"What makes you think I'm not?" he countered, smirking.

"Nothing." A 180 degree turn was fun, sometimes.

Kate was good at playing these games, and Leto enjoyed it. He reached out to lock his fingers with hers. "I could point out that you're contradicting yourself there, but I won't."

Kate gave him an amused smile, and glanced at her fingers twining with his. "Right. Because you didn't just do that."

"No, I just pointed out the possibility of it," he replied. "Would you like to be my lover?"

"You should get some sort of a medal for your distraction tactics," she said after a pause. "That sounds... vaguely official. Weird. Yes."

"So, would you say that's another one of my talents?" He smiled. "And I promise, there is nothing official about it."

"I'm pretty sure it's one of the more obvious ones, to me at least," she smirked. "And good. I'm allergic to official things."

"Oh, official can be useful," he said. "But there's a time and a place."

He leaned close to kiss her.

"As there usually is for everything," she muttered right before their lips met.

Kate only got a chuckle in reply to that, then Leto kissed her again, wrapping arn arm around her.

She kissed him back, sliding her hand up along his arm, then resting it by the side of his neck.

He pulled away a little, smiling, waiting for her reaction."

Which was leaning closer and murmuring "Where do you think you're going?" with a smirk.

"Do I have a good reason to stay?," he replied teasingly.

[vanillajello]

"Probably not as good a reason as you'd have if Bobby wasn't probably coming back soon," she said, "and if there wasn't a part of my mind telling me I should send you away now."

"The disadvantage of having a roommate," he smirked. "Will you send me away?"
