Room 324, Early Saturday Afternoon

The first day of Parents’ Weekend had gone pretty well, and the second seemed to have had a good start too.

After escorting her mother to Mitchell’s office, Kate had met up with her brother to come hang out in her room.

”So, what were you doing when I was with Mom?” she asked, sitting down on the edge of her bed.

Marshall smiled. "Yeah. And people here seem very open."

Okay, so one person. Who he was totally crushing on. Close enough.

"You don't know that," Kate pointed out. "But... I do."

"Don't worry. I won't tell Mom and Dad."

There were snarky things to be said in response to that. But Kate wasn't going to say any of them.

"What are brothers for?" Marshall asked, giving her a little grin.

"I don't know, drooling over my friends maybe?" Kate grinned back.

"Hey, you said you didn't know him," Marshall pointed out.

Kate chuckled. "No, I meant earlier drooling. A certain boy with blue eyes?"

"Oh!" Marshall smirked. "Well, he's far too gorgeous to go to waste. So if you're just going to be friends with him... "

"He's not going to waste." And that was all that Kate planned to say about that subject.

"Good for you, sis," he said, still smirking. "Just don't get knocked up. Alice would freak."

Kate winced at a memory. "Yeah, no thanks."

Marshall noticed the wince, but decided not to ask. "So, you really trusted Mom on her own?"

"Not on her own," Kate corrected him. "With Mitchell. There's a difference."

"How is that different?" he asked.

"Because he's not going to freak her out by telling her about the weird stuff."

Marshall nodded. "Hopefully she won't wander off on her own."

"I don't think she's going to," Kate said. "I told her to call me when they're done."

"Hope she listens," Marshall said. "So... I think I like your school."

"You always were the smart one, Moosh," she grinned. "It's way better than that hellhole you go to."

"Think Mom would freak if I wanted to enroll?"

"Are you kidding? I had to fight to get here, and I'm way more trouble than you are. She's not gonna want to let you go."

Marshall sighed. "Yeah, you're right."

Goodbye, cute gay boy. It could have been fun.

"Doesn't mean you can't try," Kate said. "I'd suggest talking to Dad first, though." A beat. "Also, a little no Kate, you're not trouble woulda been nice."
