Hawi, Hawaii, Sunday Early Evening

One of the good things about living in Fandom was getting to use Portalocity. So, when an obnoxious dude happened to stumble upon incriminating videos of a dark part of your life you would have rather buried and never thought about again, and you ended up punching him in his stupid face, and then found yourself anxious to get off the island because it was making you feel pukey and bad... You could hit up Portalocity for a package deal on portals to a cottage in Hawaii.

Kate had portalled out ahead to set some stuff up in advance before Bod got there. Those things included mundane stuff like getting groceries, but also special things like a hammock fit for two between two trees in the yard. It was important to have one. Right now, it was.

And there were one or two other things as well. Since the portal was not too far from the cottage, Kate had just texted Bod the address and a picture of the building, and was waiting for him on the kitchen, wearing the dress she'd not gone to a party in not too much earlier. She was resting her elbows on the railing, and beside her there were an empty jar, and a quickly made sign that said 'KISSING BOOTH'. Because she was a dork.

A dork who really, really felt like she needed to be with her boyfriend right now.

"No, you're good," Kate replied, smiling up at him while discretely pressing the back of her poor hand against the chilled bottle. "Very comfy."

"All right," he returned, reaching down for the juice he'd tucked against his side so he could start to open it. He stopped though and glanced down at her, looking sheepish. "Should we do the champagne first?"

"Eh, we've already fucked up the order of things," Kate replied, shaking her head. "If you wanna have juice now, have juice."

"I didn't mean to disrupt the correct order," Bod said as he passed her the juice. "Was it the champagne in the hammock? Or was it getting your ring this early?"

"No, it was just the kiss, champagne, hammock thing," she pointed out as she tucked the bottle next to her so it wouldn't roll of or anything, and took the juice. "I think I stopped kissing you to have champagne, originally. But I got distracted."

"And I think I really wanted to get into the hammock with you," he said, moving to tangle their bare legs together now that they'd settled down. "So, the order is rubbish now. We can make a new order!"

"I'm fine with that," Kate sighed, sliding her leg against his a bit, in nothing more than acknowledgement of his momvement. "I wasn't too attached to it, anyway."

"We're in Hawaii," Bod said, getting the hammock swinging lightly while they drank juice and cuddled. "I didn't think I'd be back here so soon."

"Yeah, well," Kate replied, shrugging a shoulder. "Sometimes things just... happen. When you least expect them to."

"Is everything all right?" Bod asked quietly, looking down at her. "That statement wasn't meant as anything prying, I promise. I'm really very glad to be back here with you."

"I'm glad you're here too." She rubbed her cheek against his shoulder. "I've just had a really... weird day."

"Would you like to talk about it?" Bod asked, taking a few more sips of his juice and keeping the hammock swinging lightly in the Hawaiian breeze.

Kate was quiet for a moment. She considered the pros and cons of just coming out with it now and potentially wrecking the relaxed mood, versus keeping it to herself and making herself crazy by constantly teetering just on the edge of telling him.

The former won.

"I punched Topher in the face today."

"Ow," Bod said and chuckled lightly. "That explains the wince I saw on your face a few moments ago. Did you hurt your hand on his face?"

He was already guessing she had a good reason for punching him and decided to wait for her to tell him versus asking her why.

"Yes," she replied, instinctively flexing the fingers of her hurt hand a few times. "But Mitchell got me an icepack. I don't even know whether I should be glad or a little creeped out that I have friends who'll just all nonchalant-like get me an icepack before even asking why I did it, when I show up complaining that punching people hurts."

"Are you certain you didn't break anything?" he asked, reaching down to gently take her sore hand in his. "Have you taken an aspirin or something to help ease the pain?"

"It doesn't hurt that bad anymore," she told him. "Just like I'm sure Topher's nose isn't bleeding anymore."

"Mmm." He reached down and gently kissed the top of her hand. "We'll put some ice on it later so it doesn't swell or get stiff later. It looks all right. Your poor hand."

"Aren't you gonna tell me hitting people is wrong and that I should've kept a better hold on myself?" Kate wondered, wryly. "You don't even know why I hit him."

"If you hit him, you had a good reason," Bod replied, shrugging and patting her hand again before letting it go. "When you get angry, you tend to default to words to make your point. If you were pushed to hitting someone, then their transgression deserved it."

There was another brief pause before Kate replied. Once she did, her voice was quieter. "He found some... PVH stuff on Youtube that I didn't know was even there," she told him. "And then he was really fucking obnoxious about it."

Bod took that in and then nodded. He could only imagine what Topher had found and he wasn't going to ask for detail for both their sakes.

"I'm sorry," Bod said and dropped a kiss on top of her head. "He deserved to be hit even if you didn't deserve to hurt your hand. Hopefully he's not going to do that again."

"He already had a black eye from someone else," Kate drawled. And once she'd find out that one was from Ramona, Topher would be so beyond banned from their upcoming party. "So I'm not holding my breath on him knowing how not to be an asshole."

"Well, I hope his face is very, very sore," Bod said, shrugging. "I have no sympathy for him. None."

Kate liked hearing that far too much. She sighed, and turned her head to try and catch a kiss, accompanied by muttered words. "Thank you."
