October 1st, 2011. Kate's 18th birthday.

Again.

Also, November 1st, 2011. Bod's 18th birthday.

Interdimensional time differences were a pain in the ass, but occasionally they produced fun coincidences like a once-in-a-lifetime joint birthday, and that was why Bod had been invited over to Kansas today.

There'd been much cheer earlier from the Gregsons and their assorted posse, and there'd more family partying later, probably (in her honor, not his). But for now, the outsiders had cleared off to do other stuff, mostly to give Kate and Bod some time alone, and so alone they were, in the kitchen of Charmaine's house, with a birthday cake that was missing whatever pieces her family had already eaten. And Kate was currently adding '+ Bod' at the end of the original 'Happy Birthday Kate' in icing. "Look, I'm making you a birthday cake!"

Bod stumbled backwards and actually ended up sitting right down when his knees hit the edge of the bed. He laughed and slid backwards.

"You can't act like it's not a birthday present for you too. And you should lock the door."

"Hey, I didn't specify who I thought it was one last present for," Kate pointed out, smirking as she went over to the door to lock it, then checked that it really was locked.

"There," she said, once she had. "No one's gonna barge in on us in any compromising position."

"Thank you because I would be absolutely mortified," he explained, slightly embarrassed. "There would be no rationalizing it."

"And I wouldn't want you to be mortified," she replied as she went to pick up the pink, furry handcuffs. "A sweaty, panting mess? Definitely. But mortified, never."

When he saw the handcuffs, he swallowed. "I want to do this, I do, but you're also going to need to...talk me through the initial setup of this because it's fairly new and I'm nervous. I apologize."

"Don't, it's okay," she replied, a touch more softly, going over to the dresser next to root around for a scarf. "It's not like I'm some expert, either. And, you know, if you start feeling weird or uncomfortable or anything at all, all you gotta do is say so and we'll stop. This is supposed to be for pleasure."

"I know. I trust you," he said, nodding and laying back some. "I just didn't want to keep my initial nervousness from you. I wanted you to know."

"And I wanted to know," she assured him, straightening up once she'd found a scarf that seemed like it would work. "I'm not gonna pretend to be all that mature, but I've heard this whole sexuality thing is supposed to have a lot to do with trust, and I would guess being open about stuff is a major thing in that. So, good work, us."

"Good work, us," Bod agreed with a little laugh. "Did you need me to lay a certain way?"

"I think what you're doing right now is good, but I'll tell you in a sec if you need to move," Kate replied, kneeling beside the bed. "Now, I'm gonna tie the scarf here, first. And then once we get you cuffed, I'm gonna tie the other end to the cuffs so that your hands stay above your head. Like I would've just cuffed you to the headboard if we had one."

"All right." He sent her a look that silently said 'thank you'. "I'm ready. What you said sounds just fine."

After what was rapidly approaching two years of knowing him, she was bound to have pickwd up a thing or two about how some things worked out the best.

"Good," she said, straightening up and letting the scarf be for the moment, now that she had it tied to the bed. "This is where you hold out your hands for me. Because clearly you've always wanted fuzzy bracelets."

"Pink fuzzy bracelets at that," Bod said, holding out his hands for her. "I'm sure I'll look stylish."

"Dashing, even," she nodded, as she went to get the handcuffs around his wrists, one after the other, snapping them closed. "Do these feel okay?"

"They're fine, I promise," he said, nodding. "They're not too tight but not loose enough that I'll slide out of them. And the fuzziness actually makes them fairly warm and not uncomfortable like metal would be."

"Okay, good," Kate replied with a pleased little smile that probably served well as reassurance that she wasn't exactly about to turn into some intense dominatrix anytime soon. "Now, put your hands above your head."

Bod brought his hands up above his head, letting them rest against the pillows there. He tugged against the handcuffs a bit, just to test them and found they held true.

"The craftsmanship on the handcuffs is surprisingly good."

Kate snorted. "Only you'd say that at this moment, boyfriend," she said, as she reached for the end of the scarf to it around the middle of the cuffs. "They have this button release thing, by the way. There are keys too but they're not necessary."

"I'll use the release if I need to," he assured her though he didn't want to do that. He wanted to experience this with her and she was showing remarkable patience with him. "We're doing well so far, right?"

"We're doing excellently," Kate assured him, tugging on the scarf lightly to make sure it was tied properly. Then she bent down to give him a little kiss. "And it'll only get better from here, I promise."

"I believe you," he said, taking a breath and blowing it out slowly. "And now, I'm almost completely at your mercy. Be gentle."

"Always," she murmured, and kissed his forehead before straightening up again, and smirking down at him. "Except when I'm using my nails, of course."

"Nails?" he asked, eyes widening. "That -- that sounds like it could be a type of not being gentle that I like."

"Past experience indicates yes," Kate snickered, bunching up part of the hem of her dress so she could reach underneath because yes, she was intending to take off her underwear without taking off her dress. "So I figured that might be a hit now as well."

[Bedtime omg, GOOD NIGHT!]

"Do you need any -- " Bod trailed off and looked sheepish for a moment. "Never mind."

He blushed and shook his head at himself.
