Overland Park, KS, Saturday Fandom Time

As requested/ordered, Kate had gone and gotten her face checked out by a doctor yesterday, and then spent the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing. Today was turning out to be much the same, except her face was sightly less sore to the touch, and she was waiting for Bod to show up after his workshift.

And while she was doing that, she was reading up on all things Osaka and Japan on the internet, and trying to learn useful phrases in Japanese. It was a quiet day in the Craine – Gregson – Kowalski household. Charmaine and Neil were downstairs, presumably reading yet another one of the dozen baby books he'd bought after the false labor fiasco. Who'd have tought he'd be the responsible one?

It was funny to think so with a still-bruised face, but maybe things were starting to look up a little bit.

"Thank you, you are all very smart," Kate grinned. "I'm glad you came today."

"I'm glad I came today too," Bod said, nodding. "It was needed. I was worried and I probably wouldn't have stopped until I saw you for myself."

"Well, I did have plans to come to Fandom yesterday," Kate admitted. "'Cause I was supposed to help Luke deal with his robot baby? But, you know, I didn't wanna come with this."

She gestured at her face.

"I understand," he said, nodding. "It would have been good to see you then too but I'm glad we could just spend some time alone with each other."

"We could've spent some time alone in Fandom, too," Kate pointed out, as she got up to take her plate away. "It would've just been without our room."

"Everyone is tiny this weekend," Bod thought to tell her. "I noticed that before my shift ended yesterday. I don't know how quiet it would have been there."

"Ohhh it's that time again?" Kate asked, raising an eyebrow as she set the empty plate down on the desk. "Pretty sure the hotel would've still been quiet-ish."

"It's that time again," Bod said, snickering. "Can you imagine trying to explain that to your parents?"

"Ugh, I don't want to even think about it," Kate replied, rolling her eyes. "I mean, can you imagine the kind of crazycakes everyone here would go over that?"

"Yes, with them not knowing anything about the oddness of the island, I can't even imagine what they'd think if that happened," Bod admitted, shaking his head. "Hopefully that never happens."

Kate wandered back over to the bed, shaking her head. "Yeah, that better not ever happen. I don't... really think Mom's equipped to handle it."

"We'll hope that it doesn't happen," he said, reaching to brush some of her hair back, "but we'll deal with it if it does."

"Preferably in ways that don't involve me having to tackle anyone," Kate agreed, wryly. "As badass a move as that is."

"My poor girlfriend," Bod said, smiling at her. "You've had a rough weekend. Hopefully there's no more of those for awhile."

"Hopefully." Kate... maybe did not believe that was possible, but she could still hope. "I'd rather just focus on the positive drama of Japan."

"Well, you've passed a few hurdles already, haven't you?" Bod pointed out. "You're getting there."

"I am," she said, and smiled again. "And I'm so gonna get there. It's a huge thing but I wanna do it."

[therewaslife]

"And I know that once you put your mind to something, you will do it," Bod said and smiled at her. "I'm proud of you."

Kate looked down and smiled in that way that tended to betray her feelings about anyone expressing pride over her. As smug as she acted, it was still a big deal for her.

"Thanks," she murmured. "I try."

"And you will do it," he said, leaning over and pressing a kiss atop her head. "I know you will but you won't do it today because I'm ordering you to continue resting. I know you're all right but you should still rest."

"Bossy," she chuckled. "Fine, I'm gonna rest. But you're gonna have to cuddle with me. In a way that doesn't hurt my face."

"We can do that thing where we lay on our sides?" Bod suggested. "Unless someone goes wild with an arm, there's no way to hurt your face."

"Well, I'm not gonna go wild with an arm," Kate replied, with a snicker. "And if you go wild with an arm, I'm gonna smack you. So, we should be good."

"Well, you thought I might bite your cheek earlier," Bod said, settling down on his side and gesturing her closer. "Maybe I thought you were going to go wild with your arm."

"Well, I'm not," she assured him, flopping down onto her side. "I'll be very tame."
